Man, the rains at it again today. Make a gent who even loves the rain a bit stir crazing after a time when there's some testing to be done. :( Guess I'll reload some rounds though I normally don't like to open powder in this kind of weather. Have had the heat on in the shop all week though and I felt no dampness in there this morning.

Did spend some time this morning loading a mag with dummy rounds of the bullet types I use and fed the RO multiple times trying to catch any chambering issues. The loads and ejects went smooth. Next step will be to go live testing for real at the range...….. hopefully before I turn old and gray. ;)

Itching to see what the trigger pull feels like but have no snap caps. I suppose I could load a spent casing with the spent primer and try it.

You are much more patient than I am I would be out trying it in the rain. (and probably catch a cold but it would be worth it!)
Lots of rounds fired through 1911s in the rain, it's waterproof but of course you are not:)

Shot a match in the rain once, not real cold but cold and wet.
1/2 the match I was fumbling to find the mag catch. (which normally never gives me problems)
For some reason things are trickier when your fingers are cold and wet.

Hop[efully it will stop raining soon.

Received some winter provisions from Jakes's place this afternoon right on schedule...…..:thumbup::thumbup: Fingers crossed that I make it to the range to try some loads this week. The rain and snow yesterday put a damper on things but the weather prognosticator stuck his neck out and said things will look better by Wednesday. We'll see.

P.S. Half expected a nasty note from the mailman but didn't find one. :)

Looks like you were one of the first to get some of my brand new business/load data cards! I love the new design. The old one was sooo boring and the gloss made it hard to put load data on the back. The new cards are good to go. Mind if I ask how long it took to get your order? I was out most of last week trying to recover from a bad experience with a urologist.

Hello Jake. I like the new business and data cards. The data portion takes pencil very well.

I made the order on the tenth, received an e-mail that the order had gone to shipping on the eleventh, and the package arrived today, the 15th. So, looks to me like three business days for shipping.

Man, sorry to hear about the bad experience. Pray all is well now.

Hey, Jake hope you get well soon.
Looks like I need to place an order to get some of the new cards:)

YBOT,
I'm sure by now my mail person goes "OH, bleep, not him AGAIN!"

OK, question on how many caps or quantity of Nu Finish should I add to the Walnut Media I'll be using for my first test? Ann brought me the Nu Finish that she found while grocery shopping this week end.

As you'll see in the photo the walnut has been lightly used and stored for some time. The picture of the brass is for comparison before and after the clean period and the media photo is what I have on hand. Fun digging out things I've had in the reloading locker for some years.

Had to throw in a photo of LT as he kept me company as I took these this morning. He's the shop attack cat and I've never seen any evidence of mice while he's got the watch. He's a real buddy. :)

Start with three cupfuls with that dry untreated media. Go from there. The media as a whole needs to have some moisture content for the polish to work. If it dies out in the heat, even if it still has polish in it, it won't shine the brass well. I sometimes have to add a little water to mine out in the shed in the Alabama heat. Not enough won't shine well, too much will gum things up. Add the NuFinish, tumble with no brass until it works into the media well before adding cases.

I started the tumbler and added three capfuls. Ran approximately 50 minutes and the NuFinish looked mixed in without any blobs showing. Have now added the brass and started the clock. We'll see...

The polish was on the thick side even after shaking. Had to stick my finger in the cap to get it to flow out.

I use my fingers to break the clumps as they rotate up from the bottom breaking them into very small ones, mixes in faster.

3 capfuls for 2-3 loads, then after that you're probably good with 1 capful per load. I also put in a used dryer sheet cut in half. Seems to cut down on the overall dust. Throw it away after the load is done.

Wow! Seeing is believing. Doing a Sierra Madre jig.

Step 1: Added 3 capfuls of Nu Finish to pre-brass Walnut Media with tumbler running and mixed for 50 minutes.
Step 2: Added brass to media and Nu Finish mix and ran for 3 1/2 hours.

The second step time maybe more than needed. I was off doing other things and by the time I returned
3 1/2 hours had passed.

The following is the above group ready for sizing, length and chamber check plus inspection.

Thanks to Walkalong, Blue68f100 and drband for walking me through the process. Oh how we stand on the shoulder of others. Grand!:thumbup::thumbup:

If there is enough residual wax on the cases, yes. Not a large difference, but one you can feel.
