Remington RM-380

I bought one when they had the $100 rebate. It cost me about $160 all in so I couldn't pass it up.
I have about 600 rounds through it after various visits to the range. It has never jammed. It has consistent groups under 3" at 7 yards when I am at my best. It is way more accurate than I thought it would be considering the sights are nothing to write home about. The only con might be the weight. Think the last time I weighed it fully loaded in a pocket holster it came in at 16oz. I don't really notice it I'm my pocket anymore. It has been my daily carry for quite some time now.

I have one with a bit shy of 1000 rds through it. It's been a great little pocket gun. Been very reliable and for the money invested a good deal.

I've been kicking around getting one for some time. I like light little pocket guns, but there is always a place for rugged little chunkers like the RM380.

I've heard it's one for the few new Remington pistols that is a pretty dang good little gun.

I have 2 and they've been flawless. It has a DAO trigger which some folks like and other folks can't stand. I like the DAO pull, and I shoot OK with it:


The above target was shooting standing, two-handed, unsupported.

I purchased the 2nd one for $100.00 and it has to be the hands-down best value of any gun.

The RM380 is probably the most underrated gun out there.

Remington bought the Rohrbaugh company and their excellent R380 (MSRP $1,150) design, improved the durability of the recoil springs, changed from a heel to a thumb magazine release, and have succeeded in manufacturing the RM380 without botching things up in production.

I picked one up for an insanely low price and it also came equipped with a Crimson Trace grip laser - go figure! Great little gun and a joy to carry. A worthwhile investment, IMHO.

I have an RM380 that I got maybe 1.5 years ago. No jams, so far. It just shoots and shoots, but I don't shoot it every day.

It's a bit thick compared to all the Ruger LCP sized pocket guns. However, for people that want a hammer fired, double action only gun with 2nd strike capability, the RM380 is a solid choice. Plus, due to size of the gun and large slide, the gun is easy to cycle the action manually and the felt recoil is relatively soft.

I carry one and so does my nephew. Both have been utterly reliable. They are slightly heavier than other pocket 380s but still disappear in your pocket. The little extra width of the grip makes them feel like a larger gun when you shoot them. Two thumbs up from me and my nephew.

I have one. It’s a great little pistol. I have around 700 rounds through mine and have never had a malfunction using nearly every .380 cartridge brand I could find.

The only thing I wish Remington would have done was made the sights a tad bit bigger.

I seriously looked at the RM380 prior to buying a Pico. The Pico was thinner and had better sights.

The Rohrbaughs set out to make the smallest semi-auto in 9mm that could possibly be made, and I think they did do that with the R9. The R380 was just the R9 re-chambered for .380 ACP.

Some of the other pocket 380s out there were built from the ground up as a 380 and optimized for 380 Auto, but the R380 wasn't, it just happened to work as a 380 pocket auto, size-wise, because the R9 worked as a 9mm pocket auto.

Correct, RM380 Magazines have a spacer in the back. If you take the spacer out 9mm will fit just fine. It will be interesting to see if Remington releases a 9mm version too.

Add me to the list of happy RM380 owners. My only regret is that I didn't buy two when they were a black Friday deal. IIRC they were only $129 after the Remington rebate.

I wish I would have waited on purchasing my first one and instead purchased 2 for $99.99 ea !!

This is almost unbelievable to me. I have never seen anyone talk good about these pistols.Local shop/range has been selling them since they came out and has nothing but trouble. I go almost every Tuesday and Thursday night and once a week someone is there sending a RM380 back for repair. I have seen two different people buy them new and go out on the range and have them not work. The RM380 and R51 that I have seen have worked less than Ravens,Jennings and Hi Points.

It would seem very strange for owners of malfunctioning RM380s to not discuss the gun's problems and issues extensively online like the owners of other problematic guns.

First bad Internet post I've ever seen on the RM380. I'm not saying you're wrong, just the first bad word I've heard.

R51, yea, that gun's problems are legion. Not the RM380 though.

First negative post on the RM380 and of course it's from someone who has never shot one let alone owned one.
So at least once a week someone is sending in an RM380 for repairs? Your lgs must sell a whole lot of them to get that many returns.

I use to own a RM380. Mine was problem free. The slide was very easy to rack and it went bang every time. I only sold it because I also have a Ruger LCP Custom. The custom has better sights and a shorter trigger pull. If I didn't have the Ruger I would still be carrying the RM380.

I never said I didn’t shoot it....in fact I was the second person to use the range rental when they first came out. It wasn’t for me,I didn’t have any problems with the 50 rounds I shot. The range rental was sent back twice for repairs. The shop no longer sells the rm380 but will order it for anyone. They have sold 300 of them,I think that’s more than enough for a shop to decide it’s not worth it for them to deal with the problems .

Wish I had jumped on one when their was deals to be had. But I wasn’t sure I wanted to add a caliber. Or trusted anything Remington that didn’t end in 870.

They actually work great. It’s just the trigger that could use some improvement.
