I own a Glock 29. I think I want to add a full size 10mm auto.

The three I am considering are the Glock 20, Springfield TRP, and Dan Wesson Valor.

I have never owned a Dan Wesson 1911. I have heard good things about them. Lot of difference in price between the Glock and DW,

Of those three I favor the DW offerings. Not the Bruin though. I don't care for a 6" barrel on a 1911.

I have a G20. It's fun to shoot, but you'll need at least average sized hands to feel comfortable with it.

Never had a 1911 in 10mm, but the 38 super and 45s are nice to shoot. One is a colt, one is a para c7 and one is a Springfield ducks unlimited model from 2017. All shoot very well.

Of the three I would go with the Dan Wesson Valor. Love the quality that goes into them. The Springfield Armory TRP would be next as the Glock 20 just is not a good fit with my smaller hands.

If you can handle a G29, the G20 isn't a problem. But I'm not sure I'd want both, even though I do. But in my case I bought the G20 1st. After buying the G29 the G20 doesn't get used much. I can use the 15 round mags in the G29 and both shoot equally well. I'm giving up 50 fps, but it is well worth it for the more compact gun.

If I were to buy another 10mm I'd hold out for one of the discontinued Smith 1006's. I like a 1911 well enough, but not in any other caliber than 45.

If you like your 29, the 20 might be a great option. My Glock 21 is a great shooter and I imagine great with 10mm once I ever get around to getting a 10mm barrel.

But... man, I love the DW Valor. After I got my VBob, all future 1911s will be DWs for me. A Guardian in .38 super is on top of the list.

I'll be honest, I feel the Sig P220 SAO is a better platform for the 10mm. But it probably just suits my particular hands better and as that wasn't a listed option.

I've handled the G20 multiple times. It really didn't do it for me.

While I have highly considered a Sig P220 hunter for my next 10mm, I've held off mostly because I am highly doubtful it'll out shoot my RIA 10mm. Mostly due to trigger.

My SAO Legion p226 trigger is very good, but it's not 1911 good. Let alone good 1911 good.

But that is also very subjective to my hand fit and taste.

I don't disagree. I like the Sig SAO triggers, and think they are very decent, but a 1911, even an entry level one, has a little better trigger I think.

For me I just find the P220 more comfortable in the hand, and with a heavy 10mm load I just like the feel better.

The SIG P220 feels great to me, as well. I have a 10mm 1911, shoots great, but I'm just not a 1911 guy. Perfect 10mm for me would be SIG P220, SA/DA w/ decocker, adjustable sights, but with capacity similar to the G20/G40. Oh, forgot to mention, I'm not willing to pay SIG pricing!

I know, I know...keep dreaming.

10mm Witness?

I've been praying for Sig to release a P227 in 10mm. Unfortunately it won't happen.

I also bought the G29 to use as my woods gun. I installed a KKM 4.5" barrel to get the most out of my 200 grain hard cast "bear" loads.

I've also thought about getting another 10mm.

Would probably go with the new Springfield XDM 5.25".

I have not been able to find a new one, metal frame. Are they still being produced?

Yes, in lots of different flavors and at several price points.

Not a decocker, though - true safeties. Decocking is done by hand.

Sure! Actually they have the 6" Hunter and the regular witness.

And the Match (SAO, round trigger guard, no magwell, half-length dust cover), and the Limited (SAO, bull barrel, full length dust cover, magwell, square trigger guard and lots of forestrap and backstrap checkering), and the Stock II (DA/SA, square trigger guard and lots of forestrap and backstrap checkering, bull barrel), and the Stock III (DA/SA, square trigger guard and lots of forestrap and backstrap checkering, straight barrel), and...

I have the first two. My favorite guns.

I suppose everyone on THR knows I have a Gen III Glock 20, which I love. If you do well with the G29, you really owe it to yourself to check out the G20 and the G40. The G40 is available with Glock's MOS to make it easy mounting an RMR or other miniature reflex sight. Glocks aren't for everybody. I find the ergonomics and the trigger to be acceptable, and enjoy to weight and capacity of a double stack polymer. If you want a better trigger or metal frame, you'll want to consider other options. SIG, various 1911s, and the EAA all make 10mms. Of those options, I would look into the Witness and various double stack 1911s, like the Rock Island, because I don't much care for single stack autos. Your results may vary.

Gen 3 G20SF, Kimber Eclipse II and Delta Elite are in my corral. All are great shooters. If you want SA/DA, can't go wrong with P220. G20 easily converts to 357 Sig with a drop in aftermarket bbl (us the stock Glock 10mm mag) if your into this sort of thing.

I have 2 Dan Wesson 10mms. One a regular Razorback which the Govt model and a CCO in the same configuration. I've carried them off and on for the last 15 years.. Dang fine guns.

Different arms for different purposes. A glock and a 1911 aren't even competitors imo. Like an f150 vs corvette.
I have a few sigs. Everytime I buy a 22x gun I'm not impressed. Terrible da trigger (in my opinion most da triggers are bad) and the sa trigger is only OK. Better than a 3.5 lb glock trigger but not by a huge amount, and not comparable to even a bad 1911 trigger. They are great guns but to me if you want utility/ capacity there are better choices and If you want target shooting there are better choices. I was one of those who said for years if they made a 10mm 220 I'd get one, I did and I'll keep it. But it and my 29 are among my least used 10s. I prefer the big glocks or a 1911 depending on the use. In the OP case though, the interchangeability of g20 mags into the g29 would weigh heavily on my choice.
The 1006 is another great gun that once owned is just ho hum. Id compare them to a bad 1911. Low capacity, high weight, average accuracy. They are like the old cars and trucks from the 60s and 70s, everyone says how great they were but when I let them drive one of mine it's usually apparent that they only remember the good and forgot how bad the negatives were. AC, power steering, disc brakes, decent heat, fuel injection, power locks and windows etc. Are quickly missed. I love the old Smith's, but they and the bren, I wouldn't choose over any of the above guns for any actual use.

I'm not sure if the 1911 or the glock was the corvette.... I'm a Ford guy surrounded by a Chevy family (but none of us are the "I'll push a xxxx before I'll drive a xxxx" types. Ive pushed enough brands to know that a running yugo trumps a broken Ferrari if one needs to get somewhere). so maybe subconsciously there was something implied, other than a corvette sucks for F150 use, and our V10 F350 sure sucks for anything but 4x4 and hauling. I can assure you that running into a great deal will always happen when your driving a corvette and can only haul about 2 groceries bags. Very frustrating
That said, if one were to ask "F350 or corvette" would anyone answer without knowing the intended use?

I'll throw my two cents in since this is really just an opinion thread.

I recently had the opportunity to put a brand new Springfield XD(m) 5.25" 10mm through its paces. I've put rounds through a Rock Island 1911 10mm so this was a chance to do a compare and contrast.

This new Springer is an eye opener. It is much more civilized than the Rock in as much as the recoil is not as sharp and it doesn't launch brass into low earth orbit. It carries 15 rounds in the mag so the grip is bigger than a 1911 but it is not at all awkward. In fact, it beats the feel of the Glock grip hands down. As long as I mentioned Glock let me say the Springer trigger is much, much better than Glock's. If I weren't a dyed-in-the-wool 1911 fan boy, I wouldn't hesitate to get one of these Springers.
