Six months ago I purchased a Dan Wesson Valor V Bob and it has been my EDC since. Shoots where I aim and has an awesome trigger. I figure a 4.25bbl can do this so now I want a Gov. 5" 1911. I like blued no rail, preferably no front serrations but then that eliminates the Tac ops and the TRP. Im mostly opposed to the rail because it will be for EDC. What would you recommend. Any others I havent mentioned. My top would be the Dan wesson but I want to try something different so then its a TRP, but is it worth the price. Then Kimber has the TLE but is it quality like the others? Help.

Well now the time to buy a Colt . Reasonable in price and better than they been in a long time . I have several older Colts and a DW CBOB In fact that was the last new pistol I bought. Been 8 years I thought $850 was a lot of money for that DW back then. Dealer got 2 I bought 1 and buddy bought other.

Bah. Nothing wrong at all with the TRP -- I've experience with Wilsons and Ed Browns, and I still love my TRP. I like the Valor (don't own one) too.

I also have a TLE-II which has been great, in spite of internet Kimber-bashing.

I just picked up a Colt Combat Elite, too soon to tell, but it may become a favorite.

In a full size 1911 I went with the Colt Lightweight Government. I liked the overall feel and balance of it and made for a decent choice as both a range gun and for concealed carry.

After nearly 20 years of trying to see the light, I'm done spending ~$1k on MIM-filled, crap shoot 1911s.

I'd easily choose the Valor, or toss in a little more cashola and get a Baer.

Just make sure it' a black duty coat Valor.

Don't get the brushed SS version, unless you're going to hack it up as the base for a build like I did. And then melonite it later.

The title of this thread just reminded me how dumb the names of so many firearms are.

I never fall for those catchy names. When I wanted military grade weapon I bought M45A1. They just take sample guns from standard production line and stamp US instead of US Government or Property of US Government and sell them to private individuals.

I like my black Valor a lot. It has everything I want and nothing I don't (front cocking serrations, rail, skeletonized trigger). The only change I've made to mind is dump the slim grips and bushings in favor of standard ones.

I have a VBOB, 1991 Govt Colt, and a Lightweight Commander XSE. The VBOB is as you described, but I enjoy shooting the colts more.

My TLE has been flawless. I really don't understand the Kimber hate.

I don't understand it either but I enjoy it. I like the older ones, and I've said many times in the past, it keeps the prices down a little. ;)

Look for the one that's got the spunky pony on the slide.

It's both the oldest and the original 1911.

All others mentioned are but cloneys. ;)

Only listen to people who have owned Kimbers. I discount internet banter from non-owners.

Too bad that there's a bunch of Kimber hate coming from Kimber fans as well. Myself included. I'll never buy another Kimber, unless it's from a ticked off owner of a broken one that's an easy fix, and cheap. Kimbers are too expensive for what they are. Robot built guns with 0% fitting and finishing should be no more than $700, like a Glock or M&P.

I wouldn't pay much more than $700-800 for any Kimber but the four or five I have owned over the years were all pretty damn accurate. The few gun writers who are real shooters and good with a Ransom rest seem to get very good accuracy results with most Kimbers as well. I don't think for a minute that Kimber hasn't had a lot of issues over the years but your 0% fitting assessment is rather comical.

My Kimber CDP has ZERO evidence of hand fitting anywhere.

Or at least it did. Now it's all tuned and polished up with EB parts.

At the risk of taking a beating from the 1911 purists out there, I'm a Sig 1911 fan...... :uhoh:

The Dan Wesson Valor will blow the others out of the water in terms of quality, fit, and finish. Coming from an FFL who has owned all expect the Lawman.
