Hey ladies and gentlemen. Im a huge 1911 fan if I did go polymer ever it would be SAs XDM not a Glock fan at all anyway. Being kinda in the market im looking for that perfect 1911.

I have saving jars for diff firearms I want. Ones a 1911 jar, that being said as of now im set on a Dan Wesson Valor or Les Baer BUT I just recently heard and looked into Cabot.

How does Cabot stack up to Dan Wesson and Les Baer? tia

Cabot is a step above both but you do realize that the Cabot is around $6000 if you are looking at the c class or $3500 for the new s class. While I don't have personal experience with the Cabot everything I saw said it was a great gun. If you have the money definitely get the Cabot over a Dan Wesson or les Baer. The only problem I heard about with the c class is a the grip safety fit isn't perfect and it will only shoot in spec ammo reliably but I did hear Cabot is working on improving the grip safety fit.

Cabot is very polarizing. A lot of people say they are overpriced and being a new company, they haven't developed the reputation that Wilson, Brown, and Baer have.

You can get a very, very good 1911 for under $2k - it will be extremely well made, have all the features one could reasonably want, be reliable, accurate, durable, and have a good trigger.

Paying more is silly, unless you're the type who spends the money to get the gold Rolex rather than the stainless Rolex.

I'd go with the Les Baer.

I looked at the Cabot guns at the NRA convention. They are very well made, very well fitted and highly finished. Definitely a significant step up from Dan Wesson or Les Baer. I don't know that I'd spend that much on one of their guns but I don't think you'd be disappointed either.

I'm giving serious consideration to having one built by Jack Huntington. It would be a 6" built on a Caspian frame and slide, chambered in either 10mm, .45Super or .460Rowland. It will be a totally hand-built custom and cost less than a Springfield Custom Shop gun. Unless I get it engraved.

Paying more is silly...
Paying more is a choice based on one's wants, tempered by one's budget.

I've sold my Baers, good guns but just didn't ring my bell. My Browns are sitting at LGS on consignment, same thing; good guns but no "wow" factor.

Still amassing Wilsons and my new favorite is Guncrafter, their NoName .45s are as good as Wilson and a little less costly.

Reviews of Cabot seem inconsistent. Most seem impressed with Cabot's appearance and engineering, some are disappointed in their reliability and function.

Although I traded mine for Wilsons, Springfield's Range Officer and TRP are the best value guns I ever purchased. The TRP is a fine weapon; good finish, reliable and very accurate. My only fault with the RO was the Parkerized finish and the huge adjustable sight, it was also accurate and reliable.

The only Dan Wessons I've seen are at the local Gander Mountain, so they're at or above MSRP and have been under the glass for over a year. I've never read a negative owner's experience with them, though.
