I'm more of a bolt-action rifle shooter but with changes coming to WA wherein any semi-auto rifle purchased after July 1 2019 will be an "assault" rifle, I figured I'd build a grandfathered AR10 gas gun this spring.
I've already bought an Aero Precision M5 stripped lower and upper, and an Aero Atlas R-One 15" handguard, along with a LPK and other small parts.
I'm inclined to go 6.5 Creedmoor since I'm fully setup for hand loading and I don't need another .308 rifle. 6mm Creedmoor could also be considered but I'd have to buy reloading dies, brass, bullets and maybe powder if I go that route. I don't care about weight since I won't be hunting with it. For now, 300 yards is it for range.
Now I need some ideas for a barrel. The only thing I've read so far is 6 and 6.5 Creedmoor may both benefit from a +1" or +2" gas length. I can't see a compelling reason to go carbon fiber as I'd be paying extra to save weight which isn't important to me.
What does team-THR recommend I consider for a barrel?
Thanks!
