I've had a S&W 1911 PD for several years. It's a scandium framed LW commander size that came with factory laser grips. https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/archive-model-sw1911pd-1

For some strange reason I shoot it much more accurately than normal for a iron sighted pistol. I don't use the laser at the range.

I can shoot this little gal as well as my TRP or my other S&W full sized 1911 of the same era.

A while back I was at the range doing some drills and had a squib. I stupidly did the tap, rack, bang and bulged the barrel.

I just had a local smith replace the barrel with an Ed Brown.

The pistol is even more accurate than it was. At the range this week, after not shooting this pistol for a couple of years, I put the first eight rounds inside a 2" square at 12 yards during rapid fire. For me that's pretty good shooting.

She's now back in the carry rotation, which isn't much of a rotation since I carry this pistol 99% of the time.

Sometimes you just find a handgun that works for you. The first handgun I ever carried was a Colt LW Commander. A 1911 does not have to be a steel frame to be a good shooter.

I have a Dan Wesson M15 Revolver with a 6" Barrel that I've had for years. When I was younger and my eyes were better I used to plink empty shotgun hulls at 40 yd with it. I hit a lot more than I missed.

It would still take the DW Revolver over any other handgun I own if you told me I was going to be in a gunfight at 150 yd with a handgun.

That would be pretty darn good shooting for me too!

This Colt Combat Commander, part of a limited edition made many years ago by the Colt Custom Shop, is still the most accurate gun I have ever shot. There's something inherently accurate about this gun, especially if I'm running 185 gr. or 200 gr. handloads through it. Have had two other .45s that have come close to it accuracy-wise with the same ammo (a Colt Gold Cup and a Browning BDA .45), but I didn't shoot them as well consistently as I did the Combat Commander.

There's just something about this gun!

I had cabin fever and went to the range yesterday. I put 150 rounds through the S&W PD. All were rapid fire from the draw. All hits were well inside a 9" paper plate. One large ragged hole in the middle.

It's the only LW commander sized 1911 I've owned that I can shoot as well as a full sized government model.

A quality gun with a quality barrel and good ammo sure does help make us look good at the range.

I only own 1 Springfield 1911 and it's a joy to shoot. I only wish it had better sights for these old eyes.
