I'm in the market for a 1911. I really liked the S&W 5" in stainless (although I don't know what the initials mean after some of the models, PD, DK, SC). I shot this gun and it felt real nice, with no hiccups what so ever. Very accurate (albeit, i'm still a novice shooter).

However, I would also be interested in S&W Commander sized 1911 scandium?, or a commander size in stainless. I like the commander size better (since I'm relatively short and a bit stocky with small hands). I haven't shot one, but think it would be much easier to carry.

I'd like some input on weight, recoil and carrying for the full size S&W in stainless in comparision to the scandium commander. Also, do they make a commander size in stainless?

Currently shoot only Glocks (19 & 26). I had a SA GI spec 1911, and traded it. It was a nice gun, but a bit plain jane for me and it felt big and heavy. The S&W does feel nicer, and sure looks great in stainless. :p

I know 1911Tuner, recommended staying away from smaller size 1911's, but does that include the commander size (4.25")?
Thanks
