I finished wet forming this holster and I gave it a hot beeswax finish inside and out. Holster is thick and stiff yet it feels and looks great. Pistol fits better than OJ's bloody glove... lol.. Beeswax is awesome because it sheds water, conditions the leather but doesn't break it down like oils do and make it too pliable. Its the armor all of leather... I learned its best to use as wide a belt loop as possible and to flat stitch it on to holster instead of folding leather over and stitching. I had the belt loop folded the first time and went back and cut off the top and flat stitched it straight taking out the cross draw angle which I did not like along with loop.. If you like your weapon to not flop around in holster or on belt. Holster needs to fit belt as well as weapon especially for heavy revolvers.. I molded in a channel for the large blade front sight so it doesn't dig in and drag on the holster when you pull the weapon. Not to brag but its the best holster I have ever used...lol

Very impressed with the first five shots out of my latest barrel chop to 4".... The chambers had been loaded for better than a month, it was fired using the hood of the truck as a rest, a full 50', 30G of pyrodex under a ball, #10 remington primers... I think the 3 shot cluster is going to be more representative of what the gun will do.. I will put several cylinders through it soon and see... And yes I was aiming at the bottom of bottom circle..lol.. If I could shave off another half pound it would be the perfect BP revolver...lol

This is my first COVID-era gun-related purchase in over 8 weeks...
That's the longest "dry spell" of not buying any gun accessories or ammo since I was a teenager...
And that was a loooooooooong time ago...

But I think I made up for the wait in style.

Anyway, I do like Elk Stag grips, and this set called out to me:

I think they look really sharp on my Ruger Old Army. Now I can't wait to get it over to the range and have other shooters oogle over them -- from 6 feet away, of course.

This Old Army was heavily modified many years ago with:
* A handmade partridge front sight
* A Millet full-blade rear sight
* A smooth trigger blade (filed away the grooves)
* A trigger stop added (between trigger plunger & spring)
* A 5/16" rammer extension (for target loads)
* Treso Ampco Bronze nipples
* An action job with 3# trigger pull

The grips are the latest addition, and the only change I can think of now is to shoot it MORE!

Are those real stag? There nice but they don't look real to me.. Too much shine, colors look too uniform and consistent.. Shave a piece from inside grip and see if it melts... I had a guy selling authentic bone grips that melted to a liquid when tested..... Not trying to be negative I just hate plastic...lol..

I can see the surface being shiny from buffing the stag but not shiny down in the crevices.. I wouldn't put any finish of any kind on stag and that's the only way it would be glossy in crevices...
 
I don't get the popularity of conversion cylinders. You end up with an expensive and heavy pistol that requires cylinder removal to reload and a loading ram hanging under the barrel. Just buy a Ruger with a loading gate that comes with a cartridge cylinder and save some money and have a much handier pistol..

I've got conversion cylinders for both my ROA's, because sometimes you just want to shoot and not spend a long time reloading, although I do also have 4 B/P cylinders for each of mine so actually I can shoot 24 rounds out of each before reloading.
 
Well, for those that do "get conversion cyls", it's a cheaper way to get a cartridge gun if you already own a cap gun. The problem with the Ruger is there isn't a "gated" conversion for it yet! That would make having the conversion a much easier operation. Some folks can't shoot outdoors where they live but can shoot at an indoor range. Indoor ranges don't (generally) allow black powder shooting because of the fire hazard. A conversion cyl is a more economical way to allow one to shoot a Blackpowder revolver at an indoor range. All of my S.A. revolvers are open top Colt platform types with gated conversions. Pretty soon, I'll have 4 (or 5) ROA's with gated conversions.

Here in Los Angeles County, and Southern California for that matter, most, if not all indoor ranges do not allow black powder firearms and all lead projectiles. They say that the smoke and the hot lead are bad for your health. Jacketed bullets of any kind are fine and ok. That is when conversion cylinders in 45 Colt and .45 acp come in. They tend to save the day when that urge comes in to exercise your Old Army and stretch its legs a bit.I dont have to drive 40 or 50 miles to the boondoks to let her bellow out and fart a little bit.She can fart, and flex her muscles right next to that lady with the pink Charter .38 special on the next lane. Yes she can.

Hello all,
What is the latest on Classicballistx black ROA powder cylinders. Are they still available? The site looks up and running but email hasn’t been answered.
 
THR member Henry Anvil bought one and posted about it July 15, 2019, on page 127.
And THR member Classicballistix last visited on Jan. 30, 2020.
Making ROA cylinders is not his full time job.
Let's hope that he's okay and will get back to you.
