Today I enjoyed the outdoors. I chose to carry......

For those viewing on a phone there is a flock of geese in the pasture with the horses. 20200722_075719.jpg

Dot and her baby are waiting for more treats.

Anyone have a Stoney Point PoleCat hiking shaft. I love mine and have had it for 20 years. Really beat up and has a slight bend from a hunting trip in Iowa in January where I was breaking through a crusted snow.

The Mk.II already came with an ambi safety. I believe the MK.III version has an one too. There are also aftermarket ambi safeties available for it.
Great, I will need to take a closer look  I have never heard anything bad about Browning High Powers :)

Well I had an earlier (1966), T Series Hi-Power that while it was beautiful on the outside with it's incredibly deep blue finish and nicely checkered walnut stocks, it was anything but in actual use. The trigger pull was literally off the gauge, the thumb safety was tiny and nearly required a mallet to put in on or take it off, and the sights were hard to see because they were so miniscule!

Then one day (I think it was the summer of 1985), I was reading Combat Handguns magazine and there on the cover was a new and improved Hi-Power Mk.II. Gone were the bluing and walnut stocks, replaced with a matte black finish and black ambi nylon grips. Added to the improvements were a much lighter trigger, sights you could actually see, and an ambi safety that was just right. A couple of days later after reading the article I found a large dealer/distributor not too far away that had them in stock and bought one. I have been very pleased with it's reliability, durability, and accuracy for 35 years now! Can't ask for anything more than that in a pistol!

Biggest thing I was likey to encounter was a chipmunk or squirrel with evil intent

Never underestimate a chipmunk with an attitude...

First it’s cute picture of stuffed cheeks, next they cut the AC to the truck in an effort to kill you from heat stroke. Evil they are!:)

Nice Death Cap, @WisBorn! Amanita bisporigera. We have many yellow and red ones in the woods here. Camouflaged as a Puff Ball in youth, they open to a classic Magic Mushroom shape. Though their only magic is how much poison fits inside...

The largest Puff Ball found in Michigan was discovered in Woodville, a ways south of here. 8 pounds of chalky shroom!

And that’s “Tidbits of Mycology”. I’m your Fungi, Demi-human.:D

I was in the Urban Jungle yesterday.

Even in a barren waste of a forgotten lawn, now choked into desert, Nature finds a place for life.

Once again, I headed out unarmed, but not harmless.
A two hundred pound guy with a hammer is not a trifling thing.
And I had my more fetching blade too.

Not an auto, but fast. Sleek and simple. And with a reach well past rib cage.

I went out to the cabin too, but it was hot. I couldn’t find anything not mundane on a walk out to the rail grade. Even the rings of fire out of the Desert Eagle felt “meh”, like more sun.
I found a bioluminescent centipede last weekend, but had no phone to record the happy find. We were just watching them on a nature show...

Work last week. I had some unexpected company.

Carried my Jacob staff with a steel spike on the end. Needed to take a break because it was over 90 degrees. Used my ZT0462 to cut up an apple.

There’s definitely rattle snakes around. If I’d been on my own time I’d have carried my 686+ with shot capsules.

Very nice!!! Great place to work!
What barrel length on the 686+ ?

Went huckleberry picking today. Drove way up in the mountains to find a legendary patch that a buddy told me about last week.

It was indeed huge.

92 degrees in town, and only 84 degrees in the huckleberry patch. Wore my Glock G29 due to the high probability of bear interaction. Nothing but fresh bear scat, thankfully.

Drove up to an old Forest Service fire lookout tower that is now a cabin that you can rent for $45 a night. Nice couple from Oregon there that said they had to reserve it 6 months in advance.

I just got back recently from a weeklong trip to the Nez Perce Forest, maybe in the same general region. Just past the Elk Summit ranger station. Pretty area. I used to live in Post Falls, ID but moved to Bozeman, MT a couple years ago. Montana is fine but I get back to the Panhandle every chance I get!

Sunday I took a wander in some National Wilderness in the 6500-7500' range. Down a short rough trail and then up a steep hill to get eyes on a potential Black Bear hunting spot.

That's pretty much a panoramic from the peak. Looks pretty scruffy and burned out. But it's regrowing something tasty...

They are everywhere and they are delicious!

All over down the slope towards my possible spot & stalk position. Along with Kinnikinnick and some other as yet unidentified berries.

I was armed with more than raspberries.

G23/.357 Sig with RMR 124gr FMJ-FN and some Power Pistol. 1425fps from this pistol.

I saw plenty of wildlife including mule deer, and turkey vultures cruising over the peak. I'm sure at least one Cougar saw me. Spotted some bear scat red with berries. And I finally bumped into my first rattlesnake (who was very chill despite me almost sliding right into it).

IMG_20200726_125905945.jpg

I'll be back out there in a few weeks to look for more sign and maybe just sit and spot for a few hours. Might take a little more fire power for down in the forested gulches though. I heard something big thumping around back in one stand of trees, and my vehicle was the only one on the road when I got back.

Walked across the Ravenel Bridge today (5 miles round trip) from Mount Pleasant to Charleston SC. The aircraft carrier is the USS Yorktown at the Patriot Point Naval Museum. A special thanks to all of the Sailors in the group.
Carried my LCP2 with Speer 100 grain FMJ. Want to switch to HTS but not seeing them in the LGS'S.

@WrongHanded are you happy switching over the G23 to 357 sig ?

Always thought it would be a cool cartridge, never owned or shot one.

I certainly am. I switched a G22 as well. Both have KKM match grade barrels but still feed very reliably due to the bottle necked cartridge. Reloading isn't that much more work than a straight wall cartridge. Accuracy is very good, I'm the limiting factor.

The nice thing is, I can just put the .40 barrels back in and load up the mags.
