The only H&R I have. A rimfire grail gun of mine made in 1981.

I bought mine the year before yours was made, chicharrones, or maybe two. They were still machining the slots in the barrel all the way through then, so it was a real ventilated rib, just like a Python! :)

The only trouble I've ever had with it was my own fault - I tried to extract 9 fired rounds of Russian steel cased 22 Long Rifle at once. Broke the cylinder retention catch easily. And here I thought that the leverage in extracting stuck cases was one of the advantages of a top-break revolver!

(Yes, there used to be steel cased 22 LR ammo from Russia. Who was crazier - them for making it, or me for using it? Me for using it in a revolver, I suppose. It was probably fine stuff in a bolt-action rifle.)

To people who are thinking about buying one, the H&R 999s are decent guns, but the 1970's and later ones are not in the same class as S&W for workmanship, IMO. In particular, the trigger pulls are often quite heavy. I have an early post-war Model 199, which was the single-action-only variant, and it is noticeably more nicely made and also has a better trigger pull. But it has a dead firing pin return spring, and I can't find anyone to fix it. Numrich doesn't have the part, either. :(

I once had a nicer one that I loaned to a friend and never got back unfortunately. I’ll have to look through my older pics...

This had come up for auction not to long ago(a bit out of my price range), an unfired 999 with the letter from Lew Horton.

It's pity H&R did not make more 4-inch 999s. You'd think they'd have increased sales. It's another pity H&R never manufactured the 32 Long 999 they announced in the 1970's, but they must have lacked capital or figured sales would not have recovered the cost of tooling.

I only have one, a top break .32 6 shot, but plan to get more. I want the Young America in .32, a 5 or 6 inch long .32 top break, maybe the 925 defender, and if I can ever find one, a .44 Webley just because I want to torture myself making the ammo for it.

If anyone has one of the .44 Webley H&R's, lemme know, I wanna see some pics and if you've shot one, what process did you go thru to make the ammo?

We have a model 976 in the family. It's the first handgun most of my siblings and most of my nieces and nephews ever shot. My brothers and I have been passing it around for years. The last time I used it was at a pin shoot in 2017 (I think). I had a custom holster made for it and passed it on to my gun collecting nephew.

Here's an H&R 922 "Camper" model from 1957 or so...

A combo picture; The top is an H&R 999 from ~1937, while the bottom is an NEF R73 Lady-Ultra in .32 H&R Magnum (mid-90s, I think).

My most recent acquisition (and still not quite functional) is this 1962 H&R 622. The bolt is popping up too soon, so I think I need to get the bolt stop nubbins on the front of the trigger built up with TIG (or just buy a new/old stock trigger). Otherwise, it should be a nice shooter once that's done.

Missed out on a 777 Ultra Sportsman once.
Turned down a USRA Single Shot because I could not see why a target pistol would show so much finish wear... and still carry a pretty high price.

If anybody wants these old .22 Special target grips, please let me know-

They are in good condition, no cracks, though you can see there is a little dent at the bottom of the left panel. Ive got Colt repros on order for this Police Positive and Id hate to throw them away if anybody can use them. Just PM me, thanks!
