The only H&R I have. A rimfire grail gun of mine made in 1981.

I bought mine the year before yours was made, chicharrones, or maybe two. They were still machining the slots in the barrel all the way through then, so it was a real ventilated rib, just like a Python!
The only trouble I've ever had with it was my own fault - I tried to extract 9 fired rounds of Russian
steel cased 22 Long Rifle at once. Broke the cylinder retention catch easily. And here I thought that the leverage in extracting stuck cases was one of the advantages of a top-break revolver!
(Yes, there used to be steel cased 22 LR ammo from Russia. Who was crazier - them for making it, or me for using it? Me for using it in a revolver, I suppose. It was probably fine stuff in a bolt-action rifle.)
To people who are thinking about buying one, the H&R 999s are decent guns, but the 1970's and later ones are not in the same class as S&W for workmanship, IMO. In particular, the trigger pulls are often quite heavy. I have an early post-war Model 199, which was the single-action-only variant, and it is noticeably more nicely made and also has a better trigger pull. But it has a dead firing pin return spring, and I can't find anyone to fix it. Numrich doesn't have the part, either.
