Bienvenidos, Sin Nombre. We are a wide cross section of age and experience levels, but we all benefit from the wisdom and experience of other members of the community. We try to stay focused and respectful so the information flows freely. Thanks for joining up, and good luck keeping the California dreaming at bay!

Thanks for the Invite. I live in Deep South Texas near the King Ranch. I was in the USMC a long time and still work with the Marine Corps/Navy to this day. I've been blessed. Hunting and fishing and guns have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I'm looking forward to the discussions and shared knowledge.

Welcome, Bill! We can use all the high quality help we can get. Thanks for introducing yourself and we look forward to the benefit of your experience. We have a community that prizes good manners and mutual respect. There is a lot of experience among the members, and most are happy to share. We hope you enjoy your time with us.

Hello to The High Road! I'm new here. I've lurked for a few months, and I appreciate all that I've learned from reading what others have written here.

Ah, the many faces of Alfred E Neuman. Where will he turn up next?
Welcome, Zahn. We're glad you, like Boo Radley, chose to come out of the shadows and join the fun. There is a lot of information shared here in a cordial setting. Your participation makes us better than we were. A quick cruise through THR primer in the general gun discussion section and you are good to go.

Thank you, rust collector. I appreciate the the greeting. You are correct, there is a lot to learn and a lot of knowledge is available here. I have been through the primer, when I first started reading here.

Have I picked an avatar that is already in use by someone else? Or is there 'baggage' associated with it? If so, I will change it. I just find the image funny.

Just like to get a feel for what people like (hunting guns, archery, baseball bats, knives, etc.) in that kind of SHTF scenario.
Set you post up as a "Photos of some of my Gear" and stay away from speculative things like SHTF or EOTWAWKI, so that's is a gear discussion on this bit or that bit, and not the "why" of it.
It is likely to veer into prohibited territory anyway.

The Shooting Gear sub forum would be the place to post--carefully, obviously.

The reason such things are no-go is that, despite all of our good intentions, such things inevitably veer into politics and there are no winners in those topics. The idea here is to be embracing, not dividing.

Hello to all and thanks for the add the Forum. As you can see I'm retired (2002) from the Army with over 28 years of fun, travel, and adventure, lol. I know some of you know what that stands for but would not trade it for the world. Been around the would a few times and still enjoy traveling. Retired in north Alabama, from Redstone Arsenal. It's currently home of mutiple Commands, Army Material, Aviation, Missile, Space MD, and numerous others I can't say (ha,ha).
I like to shoot in my spare time and have just got back into reloading. Took a 5 year break in dropping powder but now it's time to start again after looking at ammo prices. Love to Turkey hunt the most but looking to head out West for an Elk hunt.
Have a son in Maine, one in Florida, and another son here in Alabama. So you can see we travel through out the year to see the grandkids.
Look forward to reading and learning from this forum.

Hello, I am Will and I live in NW Indiana. I'm a deer hunter/ wildlife habitat restorer, & target shooter. I shoot 4 rifles; Savages .270 win, .308 win, 6.5cm, & 7mm rm. I learned to reload about 10 years ago, and have a blast making my own precision ammo. Can't beat the great outdoors!

Welcome to SGM Retired and to Will. We are delighted that you are checking in. Folks like you make this community what it is, and we are looking forward to reaping the benefit of your experiences. We have quite a collection of experience levels, linked by a passion for the shooting sports and second amendment. Thanks for the intros. Enjoy!

Hi my name is ben and I have quite a few questions about guns as well as looking forward to meeting people with like interests. I live here in the states in new mexico and have always wanted to get into the hobby a little more

Ben, we are happy that you found us and look forward to supplying information that you will find useful. Most of us are still learning, but there is much experience here and we are always happy to help new folks. Thank you for the check-in. Now pull up a chair and then get some trigger time in. We know the supply pipeline is a bit sparse, but we have been through these cycles and this too shall pass.

Hey, Windini here. Signed up a few months ago & have been hanging out in the Blackpowder thread, lurking & learning, mostly. Just saw this thread! Figured I should say hey.

I'm a 'recovering contractor' (building, not ops!), finishing off my 50's and hoping to pretend to retire one of these days. I go through phases in shooting interests - pistols, clays, rifles, mil-surp, revolver hunting, turkey & deer hunting, blackpowder, plinking .22, you name it! I also reload (sometimes) and tinker with refinishing wood & metal.

Glad to have found The High Road! Thanks for lettin' me in.

Thanks for signing in, Windini. There is fun to be had and plenty of good info here. In a world that seems to be going off the edge, it is good to have a community of kindred spirits where knowledge and experience are valued. Welcome.

Good morning and must say happy to be a new member and hope to always be a positive contributor.
Retired after 50 years of "fooling around" with computers.
Interests: just about anything that's a single action type firearm; I do compete in Cowboy Action Shooting. I do have a conceal carry permit so I usually carry a Uberti Runnin' Iron 3.5" .45 Colt or
one of the new Colt King Cobra .357s (3" barrel). I am NOT a hunter, just never got into it. Oh, forgot to mention I compete in the Black Powder category!! I do shoot the smokeless once in a
blue moon. I am a veteran (SSgt, US Air Force, 1965-1969: my 3 sons: USMC 4 years; US Army 6 years; USMC retired Gunnery Sgt 20years; grandson US Army Special Ops Medic who just returned from Afghanistan; and so it goes in our family.

Welcome aboard, mindbent. Life takes us down some amazing paths, but once in awhile you cross your own trail and rediscover the enjoyment. It is a challenging time to reactivate due to the huge demand for guns and ammunition, but most of us expect this to cycle back toward normal in the coming months. Meanwhile, enjoy your stay and we are glad to have you in attendance.

Retired engineer born, raised, educated, worked, and still live in the southeast United States. I still work part time. Started shooting with my dad and his 1920’s era Remington single shot .22 rimfire rifle and my first purchase was a Ruger 10/22. Interested in most if not all rifles, handguns, and shotguns but not black powder (yet). Tend to go after variety in cartridges rather than just a few popular ones or the boutique rounds. Really don't have a favorite round. Presently enamored with single shot rifles. I prefer a Garand to an AR, '98 Krags to model 700's, revolvers to semiautomatics, .41 mag to .44 mag, the 45-70 to the .416 Rigby, and SxS's to pumps. Only competitive shooting I’ve done is High Power (HP) rifle in the late 80’s & early 90’s and exclusively DCM shoots. Not a hunter but wife’s family is “eat-up” with it so I’ve tried deer hunting and dove hunting on their farms, rural land, and dove fields. Started metallic cartridge reloading for HP and have kept up with that probably more than going to the range. Looking to start shotshell reloading (buck shot and especially slugs) soon. Have refinished several rifle stocks the old fashion way with Tung oil or boiled linseed oil, fine grit sandpaper, paste wax, and elbow grease.

That's about it.

Hi, new member from Georgia. Grew up with guns, shooting clay pigeons and loading ammo with my dad who was army career guy and my older brother. Learned to love the smell of Rim Oil.
Now, I am looking to find more information of all that I have inherited from my dad. Lots of different rifles, pistols and ammo - oh my!
Looking forward to reading all the forums when time allows. Thanks for everyone who have posted so much wonderful information.
