Hi,

I’m a guy who has appreciated the joy of shooting ever since I was a kid plinking at cans with my dad. Never took a serious interest in hunting or competitive shooting, but I grew up shooting just for fun whenever there was an opportunity. Then I spent 20 years in the military. I recognized the value of formal firearms training right from the start, even though putting holes in paper targets from a variety of awkward firing positions is less satisfying than destroying disposable objects from whatever comfortable stance and distance.

So after years of firearms training and experience in both military and civilian life, plain old casual plinking remains a favorite activity. That and learning more about guns and ammo – history, gunsmithing, ballistics, reloading, etc.

When researching things of interest, internet forums are often the best places to look for specific information from people with the specific related experience and expertise. Lurking and searching on gun forums, I saw that The High Road has most frequently been the greatest source of info on a wide range of gun topics. So I’m glad to be here. Maybe I can give something back now and then of interest or value to others.

Sounds like the missing piece to the puzzle. We are glad you decided to sign on. A tour through THR primer may confirm what you likely already know.
Welcome!

Hi, I am Al and old guy that has been shooting and reloading since before Remington invented the 22-250. We necked 250-3000 to .22 and called it The Varmiter.. I have a lot of guns and have quit shooting and need advice on how to best sell them. 25 S&W's from spur triggers to 8 3/8 .44 mag. also 30 or so long guns including LC Smith 12 ga etc.

Welcome, Al. You may want to head over to General Discussion to pose your question, and might post a few in the marketplace section. More will see it there and will give you not only options but pros and cons. I am sorry to hear that you have quit shooting but I suppose we will all face that some time. Meanwhile, good luck!

Hi!
This thread is a place for new THR members to introduce themselves.

Tell us a little about who you are and what kind of gun stuff you're interested in!
Hi! New to the group. My grandpa was a gunsmith in Douglas, AZ back in the 40's until they moved to OR where he continued his business.

I read a post recently that the member was looking for info on his gun and he was talking about a gun my grandpa converted. I'm hoping to get in touch with the group member!
My grandpa is the late great Ward Koozer.

New guy in FL. Refugee from the Walther Forum looking for a new place to call home. Mostly interested in old school guns. Collect mousers, military, police, and of course Walthers.

Welcome KKoozer and Jimbo80, to a laid back community with a lot of experience. KKoozer, you may want to put your inquiry out in the rifle country section. Jimbo80 will probably want to check out the handguns sections. Don't know what happened to Walther Forum but things come and go in these interesting times. Just be kind and stay safe.

Hello all, cokehayes45 here.
I have enjoyed guns all my life and have a main interest in 19th century firearms. I recently purchased a Uberti Cattleman Cody for myself and am planning on buying a Winchester Model 1897 next. Happy to be a new member of this community!

Hello all, new member here. Been on Calguns and other sites for many years.....

Excited to get to know everyone, I'm in Socal.... behind enemy lines.

Main interests are Clays, trap, 5 stand, Duck, Upland bird, Hog and Deer....

I love shooting AR's, tactical classes, steel matches and long range shooting.

I find myself enjoying my knife hobby lately too, mostly midtechs and high end production knives.

Welcome ErocSD! Congratulations on your full-on shooting sports activities in a setting that doesn't make it as easy as for most. We are glad you joined us.

Cokehayes45, the fascination with those old sixguns and lever actions is a strong bond among gun folks. We are pleased to have you with us.

Another new member here. Currently live South Eastern Pa. Grew up in the outdoors..... been reloading since 2010 - started with pistol and recently moved to bottle neck rifle. What intrigued me the most about loading pistol rounds was the ability to SLOW things down, reduce recoil and still be accurate. Once I discovered this ability I was truly hooked.

After reading through quite a few threads over the past few months i found this group to be quite impressive.......to the point with most of the responses and quick to call out unsafe behavior which is so good to see.

Thanks for taking the time to share your wealth of knowledge.

Cheers,

CMB

Hey Guys...
I was researching H&K LEM triggers and I happened to see a post under replies on Google from a thread on the High Road?
Thought to myself, they went down way back then it was a pretty cool site they had some ownership issues, brain cells told me... whatever.
Opened the thread saw it was up to date. To my shock!
I just had to change my password and I was in.
Memory Friggin' Lane.
I saw a pic I posted back then... it nearly broke my heart.
So much has changed for me from the way it was back then -WOW!
Glad to be back.
All I can add at this point is God has purpose for me and for us all... as I traveled I always chose The High Road.

Michael

Sometimes you just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get on with things, Michael. There is much to be done and this is a community of doers. We are glad to have you back, and we look forward to a mutually rewarding association. The THR primer section in general gun discussion should give you a feel for the current board culture. Enjoy!

Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Florida. I enjoy shooting handguns and rifles. I got laid off recently and decided to just retire so I now have time to devote to my hobbies (but little money to do it with). I reload my own ammunition so the fun extends far beyond the time I can spend at the range shooting. With stores currently having little ammunition on the shelves, reloading allows me to keep shooting (as well as saving a lot of money over of the very high ammunition prices seen these days). My favorite rifles to shoot are a Ruger M77 Mk II (25-06 heavy barreled varmint model), Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Target Rifle (.223), Savage 9317 (17HMR), Ruger Precision Rimfire (22LR). My favorite handguns to shoot are Colt Python 357 Mag., S&W Model 19 357 Mag., S&W Model 24 44 Special, Colt Gold Cup 45 ACP, S&W Victory 22LR (suppressed), Springfield XDM-OSP 9MM. My marksmanship leaves a lot to be desired but I still really enjoy shooting and talking to other shooters at the range.

Hello, Bob. We are glad to have you sign on. There are many of us similarly situated. It's a good time to be at the reloading bench and at the range, and your wisdom will be welcome. I will recommend a cruise through the THR primer section in general gun discussion area, and I hope you enjoy the community.

Thank you for the welcome note. I look forward to reloading and shooting discussions here. Shooting has always been 50% shooting and 50% social for me. The shooting community, as a whole, is a pretty friendly bunch and willing to share their experiences.

Hi! Just been lurking around for a year or so and finally decided to register since all my google searches that are gun related end up here anyway... Typically looking for self defense information, optics/accessory info, and legality/smart decision making information. Interested in just about everything from 22 pistol to big game magnum rifles and skeet shooting.

Thanks for all the information I've already gotten :)

We are delighted that you decided to join up. We try to be helpful and it seems like there is always something new to be learned. We are determined to be positive and respectful, so hope you will continue to feel right at home.

Hello,
New here and like others have said, many of my Google searches point me here so I decided to sign up.
I’m a recreational pistol shooter and reloader. My wife and I are retired federal employees living in the people’s republic of northern Virginia.

Hi, hailing from Italy. I'm a long time shooter. I've been browsing the website and forum for some time, and have some technical questions to ask.
I also notice the moderator is a browncoat... "May have been the loosing side, still not convinced it was the wrong one". ;)
