What's your ultimate firearm related fantasy ... and is it attainable?

The ultimate firearms fantasy? Mine? I don't have one. I recognize that everything has tradeoffs. Generically speaking I would say people want a concealed carry pistol with the recoil characteristics of a .22 short, carries like an LCP, has the knock down power of a .45-70 and the capacity of a belt fed crew served machine gun. Is it attainable? NO!

That’s hard work. I have 7 ft from dirt to floor joists. The previous homeowner started digging and I have done a bit more, and when I hit 12x12 I poured a slab and laid down block retaining walls. I now essentially have 11x11 as a shop. It’s harder work digging under the house than it is digging out in the open. Small tools aren’t good tools but full size tools hit everything under the house.

Yep. I can stand up in one corner of the "crawl space" under my house but it's the rocks I fear more than anything. I'm up on a rocky bluff of sorts and would need to break up any boulders I find with a jack hammer and I'll find lots. Probably the better approach would be to excavate next to the house with heavy equipment, build the walk in safe and then build an extension on top of that. Just need some money although I can do much of the work myself. :)

To die on the Trap range in my old age as a friend's wife did. Or out deer hunting in the woods, maybe trying to pull a too-large deer out. That'd be acceptable.

My neighbor told me a story yesterday when we were shooting 22’s. His Dad was old, lived for fishing, and had set a goal of catching 100 stream trout fly fishing, in one summer. His summer total was 95 that August. They found him sitting on the bank of the stream, dead. He had 6 trout in his carrier.

I had to pause from shooting for a while and wipe the tears from my eyes. I hope I’m so lucky.

Well, I also have vowed that I cannot die before the Vikings win a Super Bowl, so I should be immortal........:p

To be able to walk away from my fired brass,( whether at my range or out in the sticks)
without feeling myself drawn to keep spotting them (and mentally marking the spot)
and then to pick up 'at least a few' of them.

and is it attainable?

Past experience says not likely.

My ultimate firearms fantasy is: Not having an LTCF or Carry Permit required in any state of the US and enjoying complete reciprocity. Also, and this is a REAL fantasy, having legislators who are knowledgeable about guns, the Second Amendment, and act on this knowledge appropriately.

get up, decide I want to load some ammo. do so. figure since I have this freshy loaded ammo I feel like shooting some. maybe go that day or the next and use up some of the fresh reloads. and during the process, never get my wallet out one time during the course of that day or couple days.

Attainable? Hell, no. Not now. According to an early ‘50’s Robert Abels catalog I might have had a shot if I was around back then

The U.S. government deeds me a nice patch of the Avon Park Bombing Range so I can practice too?
I'd need to move closer so a modest home should be included.
Obviously this will never become my reality.

I'm in agreement with the "walk in safe" room. I even have the location; a three quarters basement (extended root cellar, I think) with the area under the front porch not excavated or finished. Now if I can figure out the logistics and cost of digging out the area in question and lining it with concrete and decent door (one main entry and one 'secret'). Theoretically possible, but I probably don't have the finances or life span.

I'm gonna go only with what I think is actually attainable... a Winchester Model 70 Super Grade (with the French walnut, of course) in every caliber currently made (factory production): 243 Win, 6.5 Creedmoor, 308 Win, 270 Win, 30-06, 264 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 Win Mag and then maybe a couple customs in some exotic calibers. Because... why not? And I want something to do when I retire, figure those'd keep me busy. And then maybe a matched set of Colt SAA (4 3/4" or 5 1/2"), nickel, engraved revolvers. Because... I watched too much Lone Ranger as a boy, maybe...

My most enjoyable memories and activities involving firearms all include friends and family. As such, when I win the big Lottery, I’m gonna buy and set up a property something like this:

- Buy 500ish rural acres
- Build a very nice series of ranges which includes a professional grade clay shooting range, a Gunsite style pistol training range for up to a 12 shooter class, and a rifle range that goes out to 500+ yards. All ranges will have a ‘range shack’ with outhouses, water, electricity, and a place to get out of the weather.
- Set up several RV pads
- Build a Texas style “ice house” with commercial grade kitchen and bar, pool, pingpong, and darts set up, and seating/tables for 40 people.

Goal will be for this to be a place for shooting, training, and gatherings. It won’t be open to the public, but I’ll invite groups like local American Legion and VFW members, wounded warriors, and local First Responders and military personnel to come out and have cookouts and controlled shooting events.

I’ll have to find a good firearm savvy lawyer (USCCA type) to help with the liability issues.

That’s the dream...

Repealing of all anti-gun legislation and replacing it with a law to forbid any attempts to restore or expand such laws. The 2nd amendment does this, but people are too dumb to understand it.

I guess I've never had a gun fantasy. Maybe I'll wish for more acreage for my current guns to roam.

An M79 with a bunch of rounds would be a good one. I remember that scene in Apocalypse Now where the Soldier had an M79 and could hit his target at night based off noise. I'd like to get that good :D:cool:
