Priming a case without a priming tool...

How about go do a side job for someone and earn $50 and buy a handloader. You are unemployed, go beat the street asking around for an odd job or two and earn enough to buy one. That is the American way. I'm not saying that to be harsh, but that is what I would've been told growing up.

Earning enough money to buy a simple priming tool should be a 1/2 days good strong work.

Are you handy? What are your skills?

Know any elderly people that would like their landscape cleaned up for spring?

I’m in western NY if that’s close but with covid still a risk I may have to wait before taking you up on your kind offers!

I'm surprised you didn't suggest he stand in a parking lot with a "Will work for priming tool" sign.

A priming tool presses the primer into the primer pocket. This is a simple operation. The beauty of the priming tool is that everything is aligned and it works with a single action.
You could fashion something to press the primer into the pocket. It could be done safely with a drill press or arbor press with some homemade tools.

You could make your own press like barnfrog did in this thread, post #49:

Just make it to press primers in.

Hey, I'm famous now! ;)

Do you have one of these? Probably need something solid between the face of the case head and the pad. Maybe just take the pad off the clamp.

Thanks for the suggestion. It’s not as though I’m not looking, I do appreciate the ides though!

Also, your other thread got locked but if you are down to hammering in primers and the only bullets you have are FMJ’s and hunted wild game animals is your only source of food, if you file the tip off an FMJ, it’s not going to turn it into a good hunting bullet but would make it legal.

I like this idea. You and a Mosin, hunting for food in the woods with a file down silver tip

In a pinch a large pair of channel locks could work, as could a vice, or a clamp like shown. 2 of those would be cheap if you have a harbor freight close by. With the channel locks I’d use something like a popsicle stick taped to the jaws to cushion the case mouth and also the primer.
