New York hunters

I'm thinking this year to use all classic rifles, I used new rifles last season so mixing it up a bit will be nice.

that pre 64 model 70 will definitely get some use this year, I maybe able to go shoot that tomorrow.

Siamese mauser 45-70

Looks good Troy. The season is long enough you could use them all.

I'm getting itchy for this coming deer season.
Not sure if bafoon biden is going to screw up our flying situation with the Democrat system.
If it works out I want to hunt PA as well.

If flying is OK, I will bring my grandson back for at least a week to hunt either small game or big game, his choice.

Thank you again Troy for restoring our thread.

I’m currently working up some more loads for my Mosin-Nagant so I too will be hunting with a classic firearm LOL had considered taking my SKS out for hunting this year but I’m not sure I’m going to.

I used a norinko sks about 25 years ago, didn't get a shot but was sure mice to carry such a light rifle all day.

I'm going to use my Garand on days with no snow/rain if I have a couple deer in the freezer from bow/crossbow season. I wanted to work up loads for my Springfield Trapdoor, but I'm already running out of time. Too many projects to get done before hunting season.

If you reload, 47 gr. H4895 behind any well constructed 150-165 gr. SP works wonders on whitetails and will not harm your op-rod.

I use 49.4 gr H 4895 behind a 125 gr. NBT fps on coyotes. Super accurate in my rifle & makes the 30-06 into a .270 @ 3050 fps. No issues in my rifle, but this is pretty warm load so start low & work up.

I used my garand too. Great rifles, after a hunt, still hunting, the arms felt it a little bit.

I loaded mine with imr 4064 with the same weight bullets, great shoot.

Nice shooting @hps1.

I shot a doe with a m14, used a grand before but didn't get a shot. Fun loading 5 rounds in a clip without dummies on the bottom lol. Got a few with sks, really perfect for the thicker woods here even though we can get some #250+ deer.

Me and dad for 3-4 years shot 2-3 deer each on opening day, I hate dragging deer lol, and now only have freezer space for one.

I'm limited to bringing back a ice chest with only fifty pounds total on the airplane. I mail back venison jerky.
I only took my new to me Ruger 77 in 25/06 out on the first day last season then used the H&R Handi-Rifle the rest of the season.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have H4895, but my nephew wants to start loading for his .32 win special and that is the only good powder I have for his rifle so I may want to conserve it. I have a Schuster adjustable gas plug, so I can use pretty much any powder that's good for .30-06. I also have quite a stockpile of 150 gr and 165 gr. Nosler ballistic tips.

4895 is one of my long time favorite powders. The 47 gr. load behind 150 gr. SMK duplicate GI M2 ball ballistics and w/168 gr. SMK duplicates M72 Match. Easy on Op-rods w/o special gas plugs. I've used IMR 4350 in '06 for a bolt gun, but it is a bit slow for the Garand. That wouldn't be a problem w/your Schuster gas plug, though.

Pulling M2 ball fmj, neck sizing the case and seating 150 gr. NP (or the 150 gr. NBT that you have) makes a great whitetail load as well.

Good hunting, and above all, have a ball w/your Garand.

Even blc2 would work in your garand, though I didn't get to load that powder for mine I have loaded it for a Winchester 670 bolt action.

I got out today and shot my model 70 and sighted in my carbine shot some brass case in the cz to load when I get 7.62x39 dies.

The Winchester did very well, it was even still zeroed after I had everything apart to clean. Shot for about 75 years maybe a tic more. Ammo is hard to find for the 270 at the moment so just 3 round groups and only have 2 rem corlokts leftover to try. Target is crowded but should be able to see ok. Circle are 1.2 inches

I will probably stick with the 243 H&R Handi-Rifle.
Last deer season I did buy a H&R 223 Handi-Rifle that I haven't shot yet. Maybe have to christen it.
I don't wanna butt in terribly, idk anything about ny laws, but I've played with the .223 a bit and for what it's worth, the 50ttsx makes a heckuva killer for the slower twist! My 1:12 prints nicely with benchmark, bout the best hunting bullet I can get it to digest, haven't tried the 70 gr Speer, but wouldn't be legal here due to energy requirements at 100 yds. Good luck to ALL of you gents!

A long time friend of mine has used a 223 H&R HANDI-RIFLE for deer hunting for the last 25 years or so and filled his tags every year.
Years ago I bought a Ruger 77/22 Hornet to use for deer hunting in Pennsylvania. Shot a four point with it and retired it.
I also took a few deer with 410 gauge shotgun, rifled slugs.

With the smaller size guns I put the bullet in the right spot for a good kill.
All the deer I have ever shot were either walking real slow or standing still so I always had good shot placement.
If they are moving along at a good pace I pass on them until next time.
