... and the dark horse moves in ... for the kill? Fletch? Where was this guy? Hiding in the bushes? Sorry, Loon. I was rooting for ya.

It happens (been there, been killed)
That's pretty normal to have somebody, or somebody's, come in right at the last few minutes.
I think the 15 minute rules actually a good addition to the gun broker options. You usually get to see how hard someone's willing to fight for a item when every good bid increases the time limit by 15.

I seriously considered continuing to poke just to see how high they would go, But I'm at my limit of what I can cover so.... I'm done.
Still adds excitement for another wise pretty mundane Sunday morning!

... and besides, the guy was a low-feedback count (ie "new guy") and I just don't let myself get into bidding wars with those types ... they just haven't developed the discipline to know when to quit.

OK, so Fletch got it. @bhhacker - you made out pretty good. I figured there was a pretty good chance it would go over $1K. I paid almost that much for a new Mini-14 some months ago, and it didn't have that nice stock. I was a little concerned that you started at a penny without a reserve, but hey ... more of a thrill, eh?

It's the wise man that knows when to fold, when to call and when to ante. Have a cold bubbly and know you're the wise man.
Damn truth there!

Those guys used to be my favorite targets for just being a jerk to.
I pretty well quit doing that... Unless I really hate their username....
But I am going to admit that I've taken pleasure at the expense of "bidding war" types in the past.

I did make out good, though with fees and shipping I didn't do as good as of have thought. Chalk it up to inexperience. I think I might have paid more than I should have and was sweating bullets with no reserve up until the last bit of the auction. It was hair raising.

The real downer of this is GunBroker itself. I had sent multiple support emails trying to get them to change mini14 to mini-14 or mini 14 but never got a response from them. Was kind of a bummer to have no support as a seller.

There is one more before the show is over: "the money is in the mail" (with a tracking number, ha ha!!)
I think the guys good for it is feedback looks good and it's an old account.

There's a bunch of holes in Gunbrokers built in help for sellers. The search logic is also too ridgid, and dosent suggest alternatives.

Try searching leopold, then leupold....or something like rifel....
It works in a savvy buyers favor, but dicks a seller for a simple miss spelling, or an autocorrect.

IMO went for a fair price, seller did decently (I hope) and buyer didn’t overpay crazy high either. It’s a neat gun. But it’s also an older mini-14 and they don’t have a stellar reputation for accuracy, and the stock adds a question mark to that. I was definitely expecting 1k-1300. Pre-craziness a new mini-14 was around 750 I think.

Ya, I was wondering about that. I ran a couple searches to see where your listing was popping up and yours didn't hit on the obvious keywords. I guess part of the art of being a successful seller is knowing what descriptors, keywords and auction title text to use. Not just to get into the most likely lists search hits, but to get searchers to click on your listing.

When I'm looking for something to buy I actually seek out those auctions where the seller did a poor job of getting into search hits, eg a misspelled make and model. I know I'll have less competition as a buyer on those auctions.
Heh heh.

All part of the fun, I suppose ....

Hi Loon,

I don't know if I should tell you this, but you actually hit my bid limit. I agree with you about the 15 minute rule though, prevents people sniping at the last fraction of a second.

Cheers,
