Went by my local Academy yesterday. To my surprise, the handgun case was full with a variety like pre pandemic level. Prices seemed reasonable too. Also, had a shelf full of Blazer aluminum case 9mm for $14.99 / box.

Overall for my area, Academy has displayed the most integrity on pricing of guns and ammo above all competitors. Because of this they have getting most of my business and will continue to do so.

I agree Academy has been very good. They get my business.
I had one LGS give me the switch and bait. I fell for it. Woke up to it after the NICS passed, Oh Well, now I know. And the gun I got, I now dislike strictly because of that. I will use it in the field, but that aint saying much. It will likely wind up in a strong box under the jump seat of my truck. Maybe someone will steal it. I will likely find it on the seat with a note, "I feel your pain."
Academy and Atwoods have been the best overall locally. That LGS in the next town over will need to keep advertising heavily just to recruit new suckers. They are planning on moving their business to a new location which has even less parking, is awkward to get to, and which is in an older part of town. But, it's nearer the PD and County which may be their entire future customer base as far as I care. Maybe they need better response times because of how they treated customers.
What is funny is that the same in stock online search engine that led me to them later resulted in me going to Academy for the next purchase, and that only reinforced my decision. The LGS, while highly popular, was so understocked they couldn't even supply a box of ammo or another magazine, while Academy had held some ammo back, your choice with a new gun purchase, and had magazines in stock. Plus their CC has a discount and they also added mil discount, too.
The LGS just gtared at me like I was homeless looking for a handout. They showed their true colors in this situation, and their only concern was making money, not handling future customers. Old vets? LIke HK, "we hate you."
That was all the ammo I need if someone asks, "You might look around, XX doesn't give veterans any discounts. And their pricing isn't all that."
