I picked up a Glock 20 last winter and have been working up a load with N320 at 6 grains I am at max load with a 180 grain bullet. The rounds cycle fine but I feel they are quite sluggish compared to factory ammunition I have run through it. I wish I could find some Blue Dot but my searches have come up short. I have CFE pistol on hand as well as Tightgroup. Given those powders would max load with either of them get me close to factory loads. I am not looking for Buffalo Bore performance just a realistic amount of recoil.

I hate to be a party popper. But i load my 10mm light for target. Brass last much longer. I have some loaded hot for the woods with xtps 11 grains of blue dot behind them. That puts em at about 1300 FPS too. Ran some 18 BHN 180 grain coated cast too with that load. Penetrated 6 2x4's. So not a good idea for home defense loads if you have neighbors close by in frame homes.

A little rant. Why do people come to forums looking load data? To dang cheap to buy loading books? Yes we like to help out. But it's easy to miss type and post a dangerous load. I made that error over on the ruger forum. Thankfully a mod caught it and deleted it. Yes the powder co's also list data on line. But its always good to have hard copys of data on hand too. To cross reference. They too make mistakes. It's also good to cross check between different books too. Please be safe.

Nick, where in Ohio are you? I’m currently using 800X but eventually my 4 lbs will run out. I also have Blue Dot and AA9 in the safe for use. Don’t think CFE Pistol or Titegroup will give you much more of an edge over your current powder. Longshot is pretty easy to find and it’s my next powder to try after Blue Dot and AA9.

If your close to Dayton I can offer up a pound of Longshot for you to try.

You want AA#9, Longshot, or Power Pistol for hot 10mm. All three of those will get 1300 FPS 180gn loads.

Power Pistol?

I have lots of that, meant for 9mm / .40SW / .45ACP...

...didn't realize it'd be good for 10mm.

I've got lots of LOUDshot, too!

It's cool Nick. Hopefully supplies will loosen up soon. And you will find suitable powders. CFE will get you around the 1200 FPS range. T.G closer to 1100. So you can use the T.G for range loads. And the CFE for a little more power.

I've been loading for 10mm since around '87 and burned up a LOT of powder in various flavors. My goal was more towards hunting but I also have run about all available bullet weights as well.

One of the things I noted early on was the heat generated by some flake powders and pressure spikes with others. I personally like the Accurate powders for most of my loads due to getting top velocities and ease of metering. That said, there are some cases usually with a target type load that the flake type do preform well, but within a small frame of what I would normally use.

I settled years ago on a load of AA-9 and the 180gr Gold Dot as my staple all around load. It gets me a solid 1300fps plus in both of my pistols and had taken numerous hogs and deer through the years.

Which ever you decide on, don't get caught up on only the highest velocities, work towards a combination or accuracy and velocity with a stable powder.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I was able to order 3 pounds of Longshot from powder valley and they had 8# jugs of H335 available so my wife will be happy when my credit card bill shows up! I will make the argument that it was necessary to order more because of the hazmat charges. She likes that one.

Longshot gives me fast velocities in my 10mms no doubt, but unfortunately, it is a less accurate powder in my handguns. I've pushed 180gr PC hardcast over 1,300fps with it satisfactorily.

Once you've dabbled with 10mm, you realize there's 9x25mm Dillon, which plays awesomely with Longshot in your Glock 20L... Then you make plans for .45 Super (don't really like the Rowland idea) through your Mark 23...

...and you realize the RMR you mounted on your pistol now makes perfect sense, with unbelievable groups out to 50 meters...

My brother owns a G20. Be sure to check your brass during every reload and toss bulged brass. I didn't do this and a round when Kaboom breaking parts of the handgun; but it was repairable. Before then I tried WSF in my brother's G20. That load was loud, threw out a flame, hit the backstop of the indoor range with a bang, and was accurate. If I used my brother's G20 for hunting, this would be the load for me.

Nearly overlooked this factoid!

Hot loads are best run through tight barrels...

I use drop - in Bar - Stos in mine (some fitting still required).

and don't forget the threaded 6" 38 Super Barrel that drops in as well

Yesss!

Of course!!!

I also have the older 10" Long Wolf barrel in 10mm...

I just regret coming in too late to get one in 9x25mm Dillon!

I have a G20 and use BE-86, N105 AND Longshot with 180gr pills. All perform great and I have chronograph data to show. Im a huge fan of N320 but it is underpowered for 10MM. Need a slower burning powder to achieve higher velocities. Longshot will give you the 1300fps velocities people have mentioned. Theres really no need to push this round any faster.

I really like Longshot in the 10mm. I load it under a 180gr plated bullet and get about 1220-1230fps for my standard load. I have been wanting to try AA #9 and Blue Dot to compare.

I use Blue Dot also for my heavy loads. Have some longshot I would load for plinking. Right now holding on to componets until drought is over.

I personally come to the forums to check for load data after searching my books and while compiling other already published data. Having a recipe I trust from a published source is one thing (and a good thing) but getting a real Joe's input from said Joe's real experience really helps to complete the picture. It often affords the rarer opportunity to learn from the old timers how powders and publishings have changed over the years, how what was an acceptable load years ago is considered post max today. Reminds me to check data even for familiar loads as there aren't so many constants as I'd have hoped when I started. There's also the matter of Berry's plated bullets, lol. I never seem to find published data for the last item on the shelf type stuff, so when I'm making my own recipes, I find it helpful to amass more info ahead of time. It was the books that told me to. Even if the grain weight and type are the same, just being from a different brand might mean just enough dimensional change that a comparable recipe could be too much. People might have the books, but ya never have all the words, nor all the wisdom. Ya just gotta get that human element sometimes, like you see in the movies.
Besides all that, I frickin' love you gus. Funny stuff happens here every so often. Lyman and Hornady aren't exactly a party.
