New Leatherman

I’ll pay the extra $20 for just the extra blade, locking tools and replaceable wire cutting bit. I haven’t had to replace one yet but I do have an old wave before they made the change that got “sticky” when closed because of displacement in the cutter. I stoned it back down but if they only charged $20 to swap the head out to the new one, I’d have them do it.

Utter failure to me. This and the bond.

No spring loaded pliers, no replaceable cutters, missing functionality, without upgraded steel for blade, as a competitor to the wave that's a joke, and wingman or sidekick those are still better. Also seems they stopped adding any benifit of the p series.

I have to agree with many here the new Leatherman Curl and Bond are both rather disappointing, though the Bond was made for markets were lock blades are illegal. The Curl would have to be a lot cheaper than a Wave+ to be a viable product IMHO.

I'm a big Leatherman fan.
I stopped carrying my old farmer's pliers in favor of a Leatherman Wave this spring. No regrets.
I doubt that I will try their new offering, but im glad they're staying in the game.View attachment 1019812
The serrated blade on the wave is great around the farm, I used my old one for over 10 years and cut the twine from 30-35 square bales and 2-3 rounds every day. Cuts feed bags good to, never really sharpened it just hone it with a ceramic stick.

I’d consider it. I carry a Skeletool every day and like the pocket clip and the light weight aspect of it. Any other leatherman have the pocket clip?

I have two Wave tools (old style, non replaceable cutters) one silver and one black. Both still get a lot of use. The saw and wavy blades get more use than the flat drop point knife on it. So the Curl has dropped a few of the most used tools I use. If anything I like the new Wave with cutters and the ratcheting bit driver. Might get those next.

Any other leatherman have the pocket clip?

Wave, Surge, and Charge can accept a clip in one of the end hinges. They might be bigger than you are used to for pocket carry. Free, Bond, Curl, and Wingman are the other ones I see with pocket clips.

Looks like another palm pincher. Some are worse than others.

And put something useful in place of the bottle/can opener for heavens sake. It seems like just about every thing has one including hats and flipflops.

Is it just me that never uses a bottle/can opener?

This video captures my sentiments on the latest product from Leatherman pretty well. He does detailed reviews of both the Curl and Bond if interested.

For my everyday carry around the office I have on old Skeletool I carry in my pocket. Does 85% of everything I ask of a mult-tool and carries in the pocket as well or better than most knifes.

For more serious work, usually on the weekend, I have a Surge (signed my Mr. Leatherman himself) that I carry in a RAE gear metal sheath on the belt.

I'd never miss that serrated blade but the saw is a got to have item.

I wish they could do something with those handles when using the pliers to prevent pinching my hand if the pliers suddenly close completely. That has left me bloody before. And the wire cutter is too soft. It gets damaged pretty easily.

There's a bunch of ways to open bottles without the opener, some of the beer bottles I can just push with my thumb. I did use the can opener when I was a kid a lot, I fished a lot and used corn for panfish. But over the years I've found a very easy way to open cans with the pliers so I really don't need a opener.

Yeah... tons of ways to open a bottle without carrying some extra gizmo at all.

I put a can opener in my tackle box but tend to just buy can with a pull tab if available.

I'd rather have a scraper or punch or a half dozen other things besides another bottle/can opener I dont use.

Picked up a leather jacket on eBay years back and was happy to find a original leatherman in the pocket. It’s in my tackle box now. I like the construction of that one, seems more handcrafted or something.

This original copy dates to 1984. From 84 to 97 it was part of my daily work uniform in the phone company. The sheath is possibly the third replacement. Working in concrete manholes rubbing against walls would wear through the bottom portion of the sheath. This one is repaired with Gorilla tape.
I’ve several Leathermans, including the Raptor and Wave, Gerbers and Sogs and will check out the new one.
Can’t have too many multi tools. Oddly enough I don’t carry them now just the old standby Swiss army pocket knife.

View attachment 1020177 Here's a Leatherman you don't see often...The Crunch...with built in vice grips. Had it for years, and has been a real life saver.View attachment 1020175

Leatherman, with no real warning or explination, recently quit making the Crunch. It is unknown if it's permanent or temporary and/or if a new tool will take it's place.

I keep a leatherman wave in my briefcase. Very handy, and the only leatherman I have. Wouldn’t mind having a skeletool, though.

I always liked the idea of the crunch, but never purchased. I did find a Kershaw A100 at the pawn shop, built like a Mercedes with tools that were useful. The head did not fold in, so the form factor wasn't as handy, but it was great for tackle box and motorcycle tool roll. https://www.edcforums.com/threads/kershaw-a100-multitool-pics.126508/ Out around 1997 and out of production before 2010, I suspect. This was the first multi-tool with an outside one-hand opening blade. I like a Wingman just fine for belt carry, or an old Juice CS4 for pocket.
