Went into town to sell some guns I haven’t bothered to look at in a few years. A CZ52, a refinished S&W 36 (no dash) 3”, and a Western Field (Monkey Wards) Stevens 520 12ga. I was figuring to come home with $750 or so, maybe $900 if the shop decided to consignment and it might be weeks or months before I got anything. Filled out the paperwork for consignment (the Smith was the only thing they really wanted but in its condition they were only offering $250 - I paid $150 for it in’98 so that was a nogo). We were chawin the fat over the football game when a real purty young lady came in asking about a carry gun. I kind of scanned the shelves while she and the sales guy chatted and lo and behold there it was: a late 60’s Colt DS .38Spl It was sitting on a back shelf with a dozen more pistols. The tag was hidden but I could see some of the other were county Sheriffs buys - confiscated guns. Real nice from across the aisle but missing the grips. I kind of motioned and pointed trying not to bother the young lady - and the idgit buddy of mine sees it and says, “Oh, you’re right “ picks up the DS and shows it to her! Now don’t get me wrong, that little .38 is kind of the ideal carry piece but I was kind of hoping to get at least a look at it. Not that I’m shopping mind you…. Anyway, she poo-poos it I ask to have a look and she buys a Sig micro9 of some kind. After she finishes the paperwork I point out how that little Colt looks nice but it’s out of time - sorta - and the grips are hard to find - I got three sets in my parts bin - and it’s gonna cost a small fortune to get it ready for sale …
So I walked out with $100 cash, a check for $350, and can pick up the DS on Tuesday after 5. FDLE was delaying background checks for hours and I had other chores to do. I had $150 into the Smith, $90 into the CZ and $100 into the Western Field. Even with cost of inflation and the devaluation of the dollar, the DS was almost free. Pix when I get it home.

I thought you got appointed Britney’s new conservator .

Every once in a while you’ll luck into one of those situations. I recall picking up a check from consigning a crummy shotgun and a bubbaed S&W Victory model…and walking out with no check but a Ruger Mk II Govt Target…

Nice pickup, show us what it looks like when you get a chance :).

Stay safe.

They’ve got a mechanical sound but scratched up Model 10-4 for $299. I could have got it for $200 but kind of needed to leave with at least some cash. I may clean up some more old inventory and make a deal for it. K-frames aren’t selling as fast as micro9’s.

I like tales of gun-dealing triumph. Congratulations
