What did you shoot today?

Tried to shoot my 1911 22 today but I kept getting hammer fall. I put in a Cylinder & Slide trigger kit that was supposed to reduce the pull to 4.5 pounds. It works at 5.5 - 6 pounds but hammer follows when I get it below 4 pounds..





I also shot my Ruger Mark IV 22/45. I learned a long time ago to bring two guns with me just in case and it paid off today.


I set up a Bianchi Tombstone Target at 10 years, fired two hundred rounds of CCI Blazer 38 grain in the red milk carton box and had no failures whatsoever. This is my backup gun but I shot it so well, not one shot out of the 4 inch X, that I'm thinking of using it at our next match.

Shot my 30.06 Remmys today. The 770 with the new Vortex diamond back scope. Love the scope. Shot some clover leafs at 100 yards. And i put the Centerpoint scope i had on the 770 on my 760. Still need to fine tune it at 100 yards. Winds started to pick up. And i was getting cold. Couldn't hold still.

My rifle range days are quickly coming to an end. #1 because of the cool weather and #2 because the range is now crowded with people sighting in their rifles who obviously normally don't shoot. Went out this morning, it was 40deg. Last week at the same time it was 10 deg warmer and only two other people were there. Today I had at least 10 positions taken.

Shot my Savage 510 in .308. Now THAT is a hand canon! Also sighted in a scope on my Remington Tactical .308. Tried to bore sight and shoot my Argentine short ring Mauser .243 but I'll need to get some Leupold standard bases to adjust the rear mount to gain some right windage. I was maxed out and just on the center.

didn't take any pics, but shot my Ruger American 5.56 bolt action and my Mossberg 20ga Shockwave.
Hoping to get out with my Ruger Predator in 308 this weekend. Love it's bark.

I made it back to the range today with my 1911 22. Everything works well with the OEM parts
I ran 200 rounds of CCI Blazer and had no problems.

Funny thing, I was looking for a GSG1911 22, couldn't find one and bought the Colt.

Today I got an email that the GSG is on sale and available.

Oh well. I really like the Colt better.

Two sons took me to lunch after church and then to the club for my birthday. Zeroed in the CVS Wolf and Optima at 100, the Contender at 100 (357....3 in 2 1/2", 158 hydrashok@1500), and the boys both got their slug guns zeroed. Then, fun with 380, 9, 45acp, 45 Colt on the handgun range. Great day.

Not today, but yesterday. Fired a left hand Savage 220 bolt action slug gun. Twice. Once in the morning at a beautifully symmetrical 8 pointer, and once in the afternoon at a nice plump yearling doe that will provide winter meals for a non hunting nephew. I hope to change that in the future. His sister has already been similarly educated.

I spent almost three hours at the trap club and only took about a dozen shots with the .22 half of my Rossi Matched Pair. With opening the club, loading targets, and taking money, not much time to shoot.

Ruger Mark IV .22 LR.

Zastava ZPAP (7.62x39). About 400 rds. total. Zero issues. Bought ‘nib’ in August.

No trigger slap.
No cheek slap (Zastava redesigned buttstock curves).
No sight cant. Note: the Only targets checked are 25-30 yards.

Nice rivets etc and pretty tight mag. lock-up.
Feels very rugged.

Spent a couple if hours at one of the gun clubs where we have memberships.
Mostly handgun shooting at steel plates and rocks on the berm beyond the 25yd plates.
We took the .41Magnum, .44Magnum, .45Colt and .44Special revolvers and one lever action rifle in .45Colt and .44Magnum.

Tried to limit how many rounds fired in an attempt to conserve our dwindling inventory of primers.

I shot 15 rounds out of each of my four .44Special revolvers for a total of 60 rounds and 15 rounds out of each of my five .44Magnum revolvers and ten rounds out of my Marlin .44Mag lever action for a total of 85 rounds.
My son shot those guns as well as a large number of rounds in .41Mag and .45Colt.
Between us we managed to fill a large Folgers coffee can with empty brass.
We had a family obligation so we couldn't stay long enough for me to shoot the .41Mag and .45Colt guns. Maybe next weekend...

The ranges were busy and the guys on the rifle range kept turning on the alarm to go downrange which means no firing on the hand gun range either at this club. That wasted a lot of time for those of us on the handgun range when they walked out to the 200yd target boards. Normally that isn't a big deal for me but I was on a tine schedule and it really limited how much shooting I was able to do.

First three shots on center POA to determine POI for POA, then two shots in the red to confirm.

Big Bro didn't do too well, though it was expected: my notes for this rifle read POI 14 in. high for POA. However, the first three shots with POA on center just raised clouds of dust above the target. So, adjusting POA, the two hits on the very top of the right target were the result of aiming at the very bottom of the target. Adjusting the POA again to below the target and slightly left (a little too far as it happens) produced the other three hits slightly high and left of center (still enemy kill shots, though).

Reviewing my notes on this rifle, I discovered I had been using the wrong sight - assuming the CQB battle sight to be the v-notch with the ladder down:

However, that sight is marked as 500 meters. I should have been using the sight v-notch with the ladder all the way up, which exposes a third v-notch, marked by a "3" for 300 meters beside it. That is actually the closest-distance rear sight on this rifle, and the sight for which my notes applied, and of course, the sight I should have used for the Big Bro's shots.

I pulled out my mod 7400 rem 30-06 had a good time, i always have a good time at the range ( behind the barn )

Had to shoot the LA POST course for re-qualification for retired officers today.
I shot my Glock Model 45.

Took the #4 Mk. 1 Lee-Enfield to the range this morning for some practice with its favorite handload, featuring 180 gr. Sierra S.P.'s, and to ensure both it and myself can still shoot straight with the iron sights. This is the Lee-Enfield that got de-sporterized back in Jan. 2020 and I had a thread going on TRH about it. Still shooting good and the older I get the more I like rear aperture (peep) sights. Planning on putting it into the rotation during deer season this year. .. Checked zero with it benched & practiced some unsupported standing shots because you can rarely find a good rest when you really need one. Also did some 7mm-08 load testing with the T/C Encore rifle and verified the zero on the fully rifled 12 ga. 870 slug gun which required no scope tweaking. Then put 19 rounds through the Marlin 30-30, most of which were the load I plan to use this fall ( 170 gr. Hornady FN fueled by Leverevolution powder), along with some test loads. That one now has a scope with an illuminated reticle as I will now be able to deer hunt from 30 minutes before dawn until 30 minutes after sunset. .. 'Twas a beautiful sunny day which is rare for November around here. Total round count was 46 among all 4 guns and I was done a little after 12 noon. Tonight is gun cleaning night.

Sar B6, S&W 380 EZ and 15 22 pistol, Taylor & Company Cattleman 44 magnum. There was quite a bit of difference in range of recoil and noise between the four.

The ZPAP was discussed from yesterday. *** My rifle is identical ***. Now 580 rounds with zero issues. Each flap from a --used-- cardboard ammo box is stored in a labeled baggy.

Hours and hours spent on "AKfiles" can pay off- many of those guys are astute builders .

Please keep in mind, from my previous comments:
Zero cheek slap.
Zero trigger slap.
Zero sight 'cant' at 30 yards (I only use berms at our Action Pistol ranges).
Tight mag well.
