I got two.... a Pit Bull 45acp and a Boomer .44sp. Just got in from the range and among other items, shot half a box thru the Boomer. Recoil isn't too bad, flash isn't too bad either. And of course: Aim for the crotch to make a center chest hit. I actually was able to place 'em on a square bullseye target. fairly well at 25 feet. Good enough for me, if some threat is farther than that, I'm probably not gonna have to worry.

Can you compare the 3" XL to the 3" S&W please? I am very interested in the XL and it's awesome that you have one to compare!

The Charter has a cylinder dia that is between a S&W L frame and N frame
CA XL 1.61
SW L. 1.56
SW. N 1.72

My S&W Model 10 with a 3 inch barreled weighed
34oz
The Charter XL 357 weighs 27oz

The Charters frame seems to be shorter ... the frame is also solid.. and built thinner than a Smith
But as mentioned the cylinder is larger in diameter,,
Lots of meat between the cylinder chambers

The Charter XL frame is basically a Bulldog frame that is built a bit taller to increase the size of the cylinder window to accommodate the larger cylinder..
This frame was built for a 5 shot 45 ACP , since then it has been chambered in a 5 shot 41 mag ,5 shot 45 Colt and 6 shot 357 mag .. I think a 7 shot 38spl is in the horizon

At one time I had two CAs. One in 357 and one in 38 Spl. Both were DAO. The 357 was fun, but I was raising cash for another gun. The 38 I gave to my son for some help he gave me.
I really would like to find an original Pitbull in 9mm Federal. For some reason, that round has fascinated me.

I only have a beater 38 undercover that I have fitted with S&W grips which left a big hole visible under the grips. I haven’t shot it much but so far I’m pleased with it. It came to me well used in “as-is” condition. All I know to say is that if you take it apart then the little spring detent sand plungers can go flying in a hurry. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine, and I hope you get to make more noise than I do.

Are these grips on purpose? Do you have any factory grips?

I did put the grips on intentionally. The factory grips I have look like they slowly went through a wood chipper over the years. The hole in the frame can be covered pretty easily, I just haven’t done it yet. I wanted to use a nice set of g10 grips on it and since the grip frame and grips were pretty well trashed anyways I decided I had nothing to lose.

I have a set of modern rubber compact grips Charter Arms sent me that I don't care for. They got to be better than a mismatched set. If you want them, you can have them. Consider it a Pay-it-forward Christmas gift.

No, I actually really like the grips, I just need to fill in the hole in the frame.

Dad has a .38 Undercover that he bought in the early-1970's.

This little Undercoverette (.32 H&R) is a real pussy cat with .32 S&W Long, and has been converted to DAO since this picture was taken.
