With the insane prices of ammunition right now, including .22 rimfire, I’ve been thinking a single shot ADULT SIZE rifle might be really fun to conserve ammos and work on fundamentals.

But 99.9% of them seem to be made for children.

I’d prefer new just because I don’t want to deal with finding parts if an antique breaks on me, but I’d anyone can recommend a DURABLE AND TOUGH used variant that isn’t terribly expensive or rare that could do.

Ideas?

The Remington model 33 is a nice single shot considering how affordable they where new. Gun is on the smaller side but does have about a 13.5" lop and is a true single shot with Manuel cocking. Wish I had a few more of them.

The stock is a little cheesy, but I think it will fit into a Boyd's stock for the MK II. You'll just have an empty hole in the bottom where the magazine would have been. Also, the trigger guard is integral in the Savage plastic stock, so you'll need the bottom metal also if you switch to the Boyd's.

EDIT TO ADD: In the link above, the rifle in the picture has no rear sight. I have no idea why Savage would post that picture, since that rifle definitely comes with a rear sight. I'm sure because I used to have one.

One of the CZ 457's with a single shot adaptor?

Perhaps the Jaguar or LUX?

Excellent idea..... You beat me to it. Or an older CZ 452 or 455 from the used market. Also wonder if the 457 series uses the same magazines as the 452, 453 & 455's ? CZ made single shot adapters about 4 years ago for the 452, 453, 455 series. Picked one up back then for my 455 and they are nice. IMG_1529.JPG . I'd bet they could be had for a 457 also.

This is a savage I picked up about 10 years ago. It was in New condition and cost a whopping $90. Shoots better then I can. Cool little guns.View attachment 1073970

The Savage “Stevens 30”. I have one those. It is an adult sized .22 single shot falling block. Mine is very accurate. I actually enjoy shooting it more than my 10/22.

There is no way to mount a scope that I know of. I wouldn’t mount one any way.
The roll mark showing the model number isn’t real clear. It’s a fun rifle and is accurate with cheap ammo as well as CCI Stinger.
I think I paid $230 for this one back in 2000 or 2001.

A few of the old Remington and Winchester bolt actions were single shots.

I used to bring my little savage to work with me every day, I'd shoot used oil filters off a tree stump in my down time- I had a lot of down time. I'd generally use super colibri ammo so I wouldn't disturb the office workers. Dispatched a few varmint too. I was close to mutilating a scope onto it but I'm glad I didn't , my horrible plan was to weld a piece of rail to the barrel. I don't love the semibuckhorn sight but I can shoot it pretty well now that I settled down and learned how to use them.

I have a Remington 540XR. It is a single shot target rifle. They are fairly common and pretty reliable. And very accurate. 540xr target 50 yards - Copy.jpg 540XR at Range.jpg
That target is at 50 yards. Most of them are around $500.or these days a little more. It is Definity full size. A lot more fun and accurate than a lightweight sporter.

They make single shot adapters for both the Ruger American Rimfire/precision rimfire and Savage Mk2. I had a Kimber 82 and sold it when I got my Ruger Precision Rimfire.
The single shot was just tedious, I would only use the adapter if required for competition.
