Never thought I would pay….

Been watching all the LGS in the area and still no primers to be had. In the last 15 years or so there was never a big amount nor were they priced competitivly then. I have been buying supplies on line for many years in quantities that pretty well mitigate the HazMat charge and shipping cost compared to the local suspects. I have enough that I am not seriously low yet and hope things even out at a fair yet lower price in the near future. So far the most I have paid for 1K of primers was $40. That was at a LGS in the "O" years. I have no illusions the next batch will be more than that though. Never thought that I would see the day when a primer would cost as much as a 223 55 grain FMJ though.

I need to check in with my Deputy buddy and find out if they are getting resupply on ammo. As of a couple months ago they were cutting shifts to afford ammo and other short items. If the ammo makers are still way behind on pre-plandemic orders then we can expect the punishment to continue until morale improves.

They're moving straight from cutting shifts to afford ammo....to cutting shifts to afford gas.

Was in the NAPA auto parts store yesterday and local gun shop what handles some reloading supplies across the street. Don't need anything but was curious to see what they had. Powders they had a month or so back, like that 8 pound jug of Varget......long gone. They did have powder.....just not anything I'd need. $30 to $45 per pound. But what was new were the primers. Pistol primers, small rifle, etc. Only large rifle were the CCI 34 magnums for military loads. Limit of 2 sleeves, and lowest price was $9.90 per sleeve of 100. Highest was $16 per 100. The Cheddite 209 primers they were selling by the brick also long gone.

Storm is easing up, but has not yet passed.

<nodding> "O" years (2013? '14?) I paid my highest, ~$45? at Clark Bros. in Opel, VA (prices were always a bit high there anyway) for a box of CCI LPP. OUCH!

I can handle being without the most things but not my 45acp ammo, and I was getting dangerously low on LPPs so ... :(

After that Silliness abated, I used the ensuing opportunities to loaded-UP on both reloading components and ammunition (I really enjoyed all of those assorted Rebates and Federal Black Pack deals) whenever I saw a Good Deal offering.

When things calm-down & level-out again, I will resume the hunt. ;)

I try to buy at least a brick a month to keep up with what I shoot. Paid anywhere from 80.00 to 110.00 per thousand.

I shoot every Saturday morning and sometimes during the week usually between 100 and 500 rounds depending on what experiment I doing.

Opel must have grown up before it was just a sign on the road where 17 and 15 split.

The best price I've seen lately (LPP) has been $84.95 shipped, including hazmat. No limit.

$109.00 for a box of primers. But I just did. Walked into a store that had mag small pistol primers. So a box of primers and a bottle of HP 38 and I am good for a while.
with the price of fuel and time, just buy it. Small quantities, enough to last a month or so.

my local Sportsman just put a 200 limit on primers per day. so with the price of fuel and time. & $8 / 100 . primers are available again.

At the beginning of this nonsense, spring 2020. I elected to buy a brick of Federal ARMatch SRP. If I recall correctly $150.00 plus shipping. The source was a Gun Broker pirate. I still have that brick of primers, the package of 500 55 grain FMJBT, and the H335. I suppose that when I looked at the stash of factory 5.56 (Approx 3500) I did not really need to start Loading.
Thank you

I guess you do what you got to do. I got caught short several years back and have stayed stocked up every since. I figure things will improve. At least they always have.

If you ever feel disheartened about current component prices go around the shelf and check out the prices on factory ammo. Talk about sticker shock. Suddenly a 10 cent primer isn't so bad.

No matter what price you paid somebody will boast of a better deal. You can bank on it. And they will tell you how well prepared they were that they haven't had to buy primers in several years and how short sighted and ill prepared you were.

Or, as many do, just that first part, as a friendly nudge to those who may not realize that these things are cyclical and, if possible, they should consider keeping that in-mind as they assess their supplies during the next Good Times Phase. ;)

I especially like reading posts by the folks who have weathered one of these Shortages and, understanding the lesson, then started adding a particular item or 3 to their stash every month thereafter once availablities go up & prices go down. :)

Scheels has been my goto for quite a while. I paid $89 3 weeks ago. They had small and large rifle and a nice assortment of powders too.

The Scheels here has had primers for the last couple months. CCI 34's and 41's are 109.99 a brick, CCI 400, 450, &500's have been 69.99, all others have been 89.99 a brick. Powder has been pretty available at $35-50/lb as well.

I only shoot 9mm & 45ACP so that’s all I load too. And I am going to shoot regardless of price. (Just like I’m going to drive regardless of fuel prices)

Just for grins I regularly check factory ammo prices and compare to component prices.

Just now I found major brand factory 45ACP running from 60-75 cents a round. (Not sure if that includes shipping.)

So, I don’t really care if primers are 15 cents each. Or 20, or…

My local Academy is still at 10 cents each for primers. All they had was SRM last time so I passed. IMO, primers will not go down from where we are right now, not wide spread anyway. Only in small pockets and not for long. There will always be another Uvalde, Ukraine, China-losi, Money-pox, Plandemic, Medical tyranny, etc. and the media, in perfect unison, will not smell anything fishy. The worst news for freedom lovers is the "tightening poll numbers" for the midterms. Seriously? Now the polls are tightening says our trusty news orgs! Funny but sad at the same time because most of us watched what the polls said in 2020 and what followed on election night.

IMO, our only chance of cheaper primers will be a huge win in the midterms but even then, we'll never see $30 to $40 per brick again.
