Never Reload during COVID quarantine

5th day of my first ever COVID bout here. Don't feel bad now, just bored. Never was more than just a bad cold, now down to a little stuffiness.

Anyway, decided to use the time and reload a little 380ACP to stay ahead of a new S&W EZ380 that's been constantly hungry lately. All set up on a Lee Classic Turret, ran the first 4 rounds slowly checking load and length, and, just as I was getting ready to speed up and crack them out, glanced over next to the press and saw the open box of CCI 400 small rifle primers there. Wait just a minute....I was sure I picked up small pistol primers from the locker, even remember chuckling as I double checked the primers and powder, being extra careful in case of COVID fog. I like, EXPECTED to make a stupid mistake, made it, and still didn't catch it before starting to load. Hhhmmph. Well one of the reasons to only have one bottle of powder, or one box of primers, anywhere near the bench was to never have to argue about what I was putting together. So I accepted it, exchanged the primers in the autoprime, and moved on.

I marked the 4 rounds made with CCI400's with purple marking on the primers....who would go ahead anc shoot them?

I would count my many blessings that you are no worse off. I caught the first round in 2020, and thought I was gonna die.
Edit: I see my phone didn’t complete my statement and messed up my post. I was gonna say try one and see. Id run em if they go bang ❗

Yup. Chootum!

Pull the bullets & test the primed cases to see if the EZ380 will touch them off. Or prime a few cases with just the SRP's and test them no powder/no bullett. My striker fired guns no likee Small Rifle Primers but every other handgun I own eats them like candy.

Yikes, I never got to quite that level of sick with COVID and I had it twice. Glad you were able to pull through! Otherwise we wouldn't be having fun discussions in the reloading forum on here. :)

I’d shoot them.

I would test them out to be sure they will go off but for simplicity sake, I'd just load the rest with small pistol primers.

“Survived Covid, but not the reloading results….” NOT a good headline.
Sorry to hear about the Covid, but there are some days it happens without the virus.
If your .380 will set off the SRP since it’s harder, then it’ll shoot fine. Good luck.

Wife and I took high quality Vit D, zinc and C for 2 years when the plandemic started. We never got covid. We stopped the supplements for a while (dumb reason, regret the decision). We both instantly caught covid!

I’m shooting the heck out of rifle primers in all kinds of pistol rounds. Test a few and go slow.

Depending on the powder used, the difference between starting load and the ragged edge of hot can be .2 grain. With that said, the only difference I've seen between SPP and SRP in my pistols has been a few extra FPS and lower ES with SRP. The only one I haven't tried them in yet is the LCP that my wife carries.

I've had it twice now. First bout was almost 5 weeks, second bout was 12 days but much more severe with fever and aches.

As for the 4 I'd shoot'um up in a heartbeat. Also in a 380EZ.

Yeah, I too just got out of Covid jail. While I was bored the last coupla days, I didn't trust myself to reload ammo, even tho I had just purchased a new Kimber raptor two days before testing positive. I doubt the SRPs will make enough of a difference in pressure, if indeed they get set off.

Well, the CZ83 likes my 2.8gr TiteGroup / 95gr Berry’s plated RN load again. Still just a hint of hot gas blowing back when the breech opens but it does that with everything I put through it, even when fresh from arsenal rebuild before import. The Wolff spring I chose is the stiffest one and accuracy was point-of-bad-guy good enough. Right handed everything went an inch or two left; left handed everything went an inch or two right; two handed isosceles, Weaver, and cross-hand, everything went in the middle but the groups grew a few inches. This is all at 30ft and shooting a standard silhouette, standing, unsupported, bare hands, no gloves, rapid fire (10 rounds in under five seconds). It looks like COVID didn’t ruin my reloading. ;)

Mine did not like them either... Took two trigger pulls... But then they did go bang... And with a negligible increase in velocity (about 5fps) with no sign of pressure increase... As a footnote... I to made mistakes during my covidian episodes (2)... Brain fog was a real problem... I use to be tarp as a shack.

Both the wife and I had it in 12/21 she had a cough no fever, I had no cough, no fever, but lost my sense of smell and taste, Lost 22 lbs.
In the summer I pulled our all of my empty .45 and .223 cases (about 2,000 total) I had cleaned a few years back.
Well I loaded them all on a single stage (I estimate 6,000 pulls) press and a few days later I felt my right elbow and it was wet and swollen,
A quick trip to the Dr. and I had tennis elbow!

The ONLY people that had covid were ones that tested for it
Everyone else had a cold or flu.

Oh, by the way, the covid test kits are made by the same folks that make the shots.

‘my coworker: “it’s just like the flu”
Also my coworker: “my breathing hasn’t been the same for 1.5 years”

not to mention the severe cases, deaths, hospital visits and near-deaths from people I personally know/knew. Never happened with the flu.

Covid is a different, unique animal and denying this serves no purpose. It’s nearly endemic now and the effects are lessened but the Alpha and Delta strains were very dangerous.

My takeaways from this thread -
Don't reload when you are sick.
Question everything the government tells you.
Heck I always question everything anyway, at least until I am happy that the answer is valid. Also I never reload unless I am at the top of my game and not distracted in any way. Saftey first!

This ^^^ is how I do it as well. Along with having as much time as I need, the last thing I want is to get pulled away while in the middle of reloading. You either have to write a note to yourself, or start over when you come back. Sometimes my "come back" time is a few weeks later.
