They are an excellent gun .I received a deluxe sporter for my 12th birthday .I did some mods back in the day and will reassemble it back to o.e. spec soon .I was looking for a take down model but our laws in newyork state are in influx now and we cant get any semi auto long guns till the powers that be figure out the permitting process. This state stinks lf you are gun lover!

Ruger 10/22 sporter ... really like the looks of these guns
Agreed, i despise the carbine stock......ive actually considered a 10/22 sporter a few times
Same here. While I had several 10/22s over the decades, regular carbine stock had too short of length-of-pull for me.

But I love the full-size stock of my 10/22 Collector #3 which came with factory Ruger modular stock with removable cheek rest.

are these good rifles?
Ruger 10/22s are likely the most iconic 22LR that many of us were introduced to shooting with and most extensive aftermarket support.

After testing over 30,000 rounds of various brand/weight of 22LR ammunition, I decided to test new out-of-the-box 10/22 during several thousand rounds of break-in and accuracy trend capturing 5/10 shot groups at 25/50 yards - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...rrel-ruger-10-22-collector-3-break-in.859106/

10/22 barrel after 4600 rounds shows clean, smooth and sharp land/sea rifling - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...22lr-on-the-cheap.898035/page-2#post-12175261

With factory trigger pull going from 7.5 lbs down to 4.5 lbs, 10/22 consistently produced around 3/4"-1" 50 yard groups with select ammunition (10/22 is ammunition selective) and after around $140 worth of accurizing and 6500 rounds later, it continues to produce consistent accuracy of 1/2"-3/4" 50 yard groups with 40 gr CCI SV/Blazer and Aguila ammunition - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...22lr-on-the-cheap.898035/page-2#post-12304052

That's a MUCH better option than the standard carbine. But I like this version even better.

Ruger® 10/22® Sporter Autoloading Rifle Model 31166

A slightly heavier 20" barrel, but not a true bull barrel. Ruger made a limited run of these a few years ago and I like it a lot. It is just enough heavier to shoot well without being too heavy to carry. Mine is extremely accurate, much more so than any other unmodified 10-22 I've ever owned. The newer versions have the barrel threaded while mine does not. Other than that they are the same.

They offer it in SS too.

Another vote for the 10/22.

They are accurate, customizable, and fun! I have one set up with a KIDD barrel and it shoots as good as my nice bolt actions. The wood stock compliments the blued gun.

A 10/22 was the first new .22 rifle I bought over 30 years ago. I shot it a lot when I first got it. I still have it, but can't recall shooting it in the past 10 years. I doubt if I would replace it with another if it went missing.

I own one 22LR rifle ... a Ruger 10/22 , bought new in 1971 , back then a brick of 22 LR was $9.99 regular price ... when on sale $7.99 . I never bought a box of 50 always bricks of 500 ...
I liked to shoot and hunt squirrels ... I taught two children and a wife to shoot with it .
I'm still shooting it . Some over loaded Winchester Wildcat ammo blew the extractor off & wrecked the magazine ...about 1987, sent back and Ruger rebuilt it ... I'm still shooting it .
If there's a better 22LR ... I don't know what it is .
I do like that Sporter model ... my carbine's stock is actually made from a nicely figured piece of Walnut ... don't find em stocked in nice walnut anymore ...so I'll keep her .

Have to agree ,I've Never sold mine and it's near as accurate as any other .22 RF I own , I've got and old NRA .22 RF circa 1934 I believe and have been threatening for years to do a head to head at #50 yd. . I'd better do that pretty soon .

I've never met a 10/22 I didn't like, expect for the Charger, but that's a whole 'nother animal. The traditional short stock with curved butt plate on the carbine doesn't bother me. After 30+ years I'm accustomed to it... it is what it is. I really like the look of the stock on the Sporter. If it had a 20" barrel I'd be even more tempted. If you don't already have a 10/22, that Sporter looks like a good place to start.

I've had probably 10 or so 10/22's over the years. I did have a stainless 20" sporter that had the nice checkered stock. It might have been the best out-of-the-box of any I owned, but I just never had one that would shoot better than other rifles I own...after trigger jobs and match barrels, target stocks etc.

I've seen it mentioned that just like the AR's, everyone should own a 10/22. I agree...everyone should own a 10/22, or at least something that'll outshoot one.

well guys i did it i brought this one home yesterday and i like it! very nice rifle and i have a set of williams firesights to put on it!

Very nice. I just recently put Williams Fire Sights on my 10/22 carbine... within the last month. They're wonderful now that my eyes are 30+ years older than when I first bought a 10/22. Another thing I did in the last year was to buy a handful of BX-15 magazines. The rotary 10-Rnd are usually just right at the range. I have a few of those, but it's nice to have the 15-Rnd as well.

The 10/22 is a fun gun. Here I am three decades later still modding and tweaking the thing. I never get over the thrill of it all.
