I just got a new Ruger 10/22 carbine and was looking for a stock upgrade. I was looking at the Ruger walnut deluxe sporter stock. I like the looks of it. I was wondering if the stock would be drop in with the gun or would some inletting be involved? Also would a new barrel change the fit in the stock?

No inletting, just a simple drop in. A new barrel if you're talking about a bull .920" (IIRC) will require a considerable amount of inletting to make room for the new barrel.

If you're looking for a nice replacement stock you can buy an aftermarket that will accept the larger diameter barrel in the future though it will look a little odd in the meantime.

Google Stocky's Stocks and have a look. Great prices, information and customer service.

Good luck.

Like Skylerbone said a drop in fit with oem barrel. If you want to use that stock with a .920 bull barrel you need to enlarge the barrel channel. It can easily be done with a deep 7/8" 1/2 inch drive socket wrapped in sand paper.
