We’ll never know but I suspect most who bought reloading equipment and supplies as “insurance” against a long term shortage still haven’t unboxed their first press. A good many of those will weigh down closet shelves for decades before being sold online for dollars to the penny.
that’s the Saddest thing I heard in a long time

One fellow who posted he had not loaded all that many and was slow ; Partner it's NOT A RACE everyone loads at their own pace and haste makes mistakes and I for one despise pulling loads . So Take your time careful construction pays off in the long run .

That would be me. I am slow, but it's because I don't want to make mistakes, lol! Mistakes in reloading can get me, or worse, somebody else hurt or killed, and I don't want that at all. I've logged every round I've made and can say I had to pull a total of twelve bullets due to an error. I didn't have the weight on the beam scale all the way down in the notch, and had loaded twelve before I discovered it. When I pulled the first one apart it was about two grains above what I wanted. I've been very careful since to make sure that weight is in the bottom of the notch!

And you're right, it's not a race. It's about having fun, and making safe ammo that's (hopefully) accurate and cheaper than store bought. At least that's how I look at it.

I hope I can continue for many years to come, and I hope the rest of you can too!

Six years for me. I like weird stuff, for Michigan, and if I want to shoot any of it I’ll have to make it.

You know, Super Strange Stuff, like a SWC 45 Auto at 700fps.
Or 300 Blackout and 50 AE for less than $2.50 a shot.
.223 that can actually hit a dime on the first shot out of an AR, like it’s Varminting predecessor.

Or the freaky obsolescent, a 30-06 with less than a 130 grain bullet.

So just a few years after I got my first real firearm, God rest you well, Pepaw, I began making my own ammunition for it.
110 grain v-Max 30-06 with CFE223. Low power practice ammunition so I could show him how good I was with that 760 offhand. I never got the chance, but I know he’s seen me. I’ve worn out a set of twenty cases. I can place four into a fist at a hundred. Someday I’ll take a deer with it, if I can keep this dust out of my eyes.

Ahem! Where are we at?!
Manly ammunition! Dang it!

On my Hornady LnL AP! As soon as I find my garage!
I have a new roof now, well, mostly new, it’s recycled, and I’ll never have to do it ever again. Standing seam commercial steel!
With an old chimney removed and an unexpectedly huge hole repaired, I can finally heat the garage and install my AP!

I am chomping the bit to get it going.
I don’t think I’ve worked this hard in a long time, and I used to pave streets with brick. I have pounds of powder and my custom pieced-together set of 45 Auto dies for every station. A KMS^2 ufo light and brand spanking new SWCs for my 1911.

Well, it’s not just the press. Since my truck is way too big to fit into a 1960’s garage, I have an entire new ManCave/Handloading Emporium underneath this new roof.

Being able to get the rifle I am loading for actually inside the room with me?! I’m so excited.
(That’s why y’all don’t see me here at night anymore.;))

About 2 years. Started in the middle of the pandemic and figured it was a good way to get ammo :). Well, at least I unboxed my stuff! Took me a while to get all the components and spent way too much for primers just so I could begin. I still feel like a beginner and have so many questions all the time. I use a LCT but more and more thinking of doing steps off the press. And… I continue to wait for all the big savings on ammo to become fruitful :)

Started saving 9mm brass around 1996...finally bought a press in November 2017...it went under the tree, but my wife let me clip the UPS code to get the 500 free 9mm XTPs from Hornady. First powder and primers on 1 Feb 2018 (Primers cost me $32.99, HP-38 was $24.99). The total cost since then is staggering.

I started in 1995 with a MEC jr to support my trap shooting. Then I got a rockchucker to start reloading 38 special. Well... 20+ cartridges, 3 gauges, and too much equipment later I am still going strong. Happy reloading.

cast your bullets and the saving starts piling up! we talking… current components prices… $0.15 of 9mm

9 years here. I’ll give up reloading in about 60 years! 104 sounds like a good age to call it quite

Don’t forget the other reloaders, the Black Powder folks! Colt 1860 has a built in Press!!! LeMat has a .44 cal 9 station turret press and a 20 gauge press built in
Just bought 2 1858 army revolvers... You're "built in press" comment made me laugh

Once you start price is a "non-issue"... Savings or otherwise... I started so I could save money on 300 weatherby ammo in the early 80's... I've "never saved" ever since... when looking at my total time and investment... But dang... The fun I've had and personal satisfaction... Priceless!!!
