One reason I hate going to the gun shop

I'm from the Midwest originally. "Soda" is the same as "pop, right?"
Nope, "Soda" is short for Soda Springs - a medium sized town 25 or 30 miles east of here that has naturally carbonated water springs nearby. :D
Soda Springs, Idaho - Wikipedia
There's even a sort of man-made geyser in Soda that is set to go off once an hour. There's only one gun shop (that I know of) in Soda though, and I've never seen anything I was interested in there.
Nevertheless Old Dog, I've heard of people going over to a park in Soda for a picnic, getting a pitcher full of carbonated water from a spring, and mixing a package or two of CoolAid (and sugar if needed) in it. That way they'd have "pop" to drink with their picnic lunches.

We must be in the same neighborhood :)
Yep normally a quiet little community and one needs be careful WHICH spring you get the water from ,as some can COOK your lunch aka Lava Hot Springs . Funny how few( changed that typo ) people are aware Soda had to Cap the carbonated spring ,because it through off Old Faithful's timing :D

So I was at one of my local gun shops a while back (a favorite spot for just hanging out and BSing, but fair prices and good used gun selection). Middle-aged dude came in with his mutt, looked to be a Shepherd-Huskie-something else mix, one ear up, another floppy. Dog was exceptionally well behaved, laid down in front of one of the three glass handgun counters/cases. But apparently his human was taking a bit too long while perusing the budget plastic guns (DB, SCCY, etc.) as well as telling war stories to everyone present, so the dog, after mewling with no response for a few minutes, stood up, cocked a leg and peed (for an impressive length of time) at the base of the handgun counter. Guy says, hey, got some paper towels, I'll take care of that. Owner and clerk are like, no worries. Clean-up accomplished, more stories were started, no guns are being sold, so dog gets up again and takes a massive dump in front of the register. I then remembered I was supposed to be picking up some stuff at the grocery store for the wife. Moral of the story: listen to your damn dog.

If dogs were verbal, he would have said master you are just another idiot in a gun store. I should be your master because I'm the one with the brain in this relationship. Dogs are more intelligent than humans. All these anecdotal stories prove that.

I stopped at a gun shop located along the highway I was working on as an engineering inspector on a road construction project South of Greenville, ME. The whole back wall of the shop was full of bullet holes!! While I was there, the owner, examining a handgun before taking it on a trade, fired it at an empty can on a shelf against that back wall. I was out of there pretty quickly. I think the guy's moniker was "Foggy".

My favorite gun shop, which sadly for me, moved 3 hours north, would occasionally have to discharge a gun (they had a gunsmith shop in the back). They would first warn everyone in the shop that there was going to be a gunshot in the back so we would not be spooked when it happened. I was there once for that event.

GS I now frequent has rifles in stands on the floor. Anyone can pick one up and play with it. Not a good idea and I think I should tell the owner it would be better to put them behind the counter so they are more controlled as anyone could drop a round in one of those guns and fire it, or some twisted jerk could drop a round in one and then leave it for some unwary customer to find the hard way.

Very lax security and stupid to say the least. Most gun stores I've been to don't do that but a few still do.

I've seen videos of the smash and grab at the Armed in Michigan gun store in Detroit, MI a couple of months ago. A big crew of thieves stole a vehicle and rammed it through the front of the store. They all jumped out and stole a lot of guns in a very short period of time. Some were very high dollar guns and the criminals knew what the good stuff was. Supposedly, gun store owner increased store security after that burglary. All gun stores need to have the maximum security possible because it's way too easy for these criminals to commit these crimes.

IF dogs only could , a great many humans would be on leashes :) The Better Dog custodians ,allow a traveled dog a proper pit stop ,prior to subjecting them to human stupidity .

About 25 years ago there was an old time gun shop here in town that would leave their long guns out on racks for customers to fondle.
Some idiot put a round in a .243 and shot himself in the leg, planning to sue the shop.
Luckily, another customer saw him work the bolt so all his antics got him was a bum leg and a trip to jail.
I was in another shop one day and a young guy was in there with his parents. Apparently he was in the police academy and his parents were going to buy him a pistol.
The clerk handed him a Glock, he aimed it around, then did the upsweep thing while pushing the mag release and dropping the mag whereas it bounced off the concrete floor.
He proudly announced that’s the way they taught them in the academy and it was just natural instinct now. His parents beamed with pride.

with Camera all over the place… Can’t get away with fraud that easy!

as for police training, it not always the best. And I believe the young offices story about bring taught that way

I would Not want to have to live on the difference of My Wife's shooting ability ,when She sets her mind to hitting targets . Especially as she is practicing more and more . She is gonna get her enhanced CCW ,is MY take on the step up . Just read about a female postal worker ,walking home from her shift like she had for nearly the last 38 years ; Murdered in Oakland ,CA. The Lady being colored in a predominantly colored neighborhood made obviously NO difference to the Black Perp . I believe ALL persons citizens and otherwise ,will soon be ARMING themselves in Ernst regardless of laws . There's one law politicians never seem to factor in ,when making and passing more and more laws .
THE PRIMARY LAW OF SURVIVAL :)
I'm curious what is an enhanced ccw? In my state there is just the one permit to carry concealed and open carry is allowed without a permit

my lgs has had 2 vehicle break ins. first was through the front. they put up fake stone concrete blocks up front. a few years later another vehicle smashed through the side wall. first instance, they made off with ARs and a few oddball guns such as lever action 22s , the second was all cheap diamondback ARs ignoring the expensive handguns in the glass cases including a couple of the new anacondas. another gun shop in the city got hit the same way.

A local GS in my area leaves the used long guns out and I got to thinking what is to stop someone from putting a round in one of them thinking someone might get a surprise. Really strange because if I want to look at a handgun, they will check it is empty before handing it to me, but I can just walk over to any of the rifles on the floor and they are not there to check it is empty. Maybe I should suggest to the owner he put them behind the counter.

Most food and drug products have tamper-proof seals that require an engineering degree, an axe, and a mystical incantation to defeat. But firearms are left out for any idiot to load and fondle? Sounds like a big helping of liability with a side of stupid.

what is an enhanced ccw? In my state there is just the one permit to carry concealed
Several states offer both a basic and an enhanced CCW permit or license. However, just as there is no common standard training requirement for a permit across the states, there is no common or standard meaning of what the enhanced license does for you.

In my state of Arkansas, holding an Enhanced CHCL opens up legal concealed carry in a number of locations that are generally gun free zones, even with a CHCL. These ECHCL-allowed locations include the State Capitol building, state administrative offices (such as the DMV), the public terminal area of airports, restaurants that serve alcohol, and, most significantly, campuses of all public colleges and universities. Courthouses, K-12 schools, and major sporting events remain gun free zones; private colleges and universities have the authority to allow or ban concealed carry on their property.
By comparison, Tennessee renamed their long-standing permit as an enhanced permit
Several other states also have enhanced licenses, but I have not researched the differences in them.
Last point, the states I have researched do not give enhanced privileges to anyone carrying a reciprocal state enhanced permit. The laws specifically state that an out of state enhanced permit is to be recognized as a basic permit.
Hope that helps.

Man all that junk is so complicated. I'm glad AR allows that though. Here in NC I don't think there is anything that can be done to let you carry in a lot of the places you mentioned though I'm not sure about the places that serve alcohol. you can open carry in public BUT if multiple people complain to the cops you can be arrested for something like "menacing the public". I really need to get my permit. I usually don't carry but the way things are getting to be I ought too

Our State issues a basic State permit ,for a fee NO test required only background check .
Enhanced is reciprocal in #37-38 States . Here one must complete an 8 hr. course ,4 classroom and 4 on a firing range . Class room covers basics of handling a firearm properly ,along with some visual aids in when and when one shouldn't attempt to use their weapon . Along with the all important legal aspects and real life scenarios of what to do in many circumstances . You also get a Hand manual which we always inform our students to go over time and again ,after complete the course .

Range is critical here ,as one MUST pass a basic shooting regiment , otherwise the #3 instructors will NOT sign off and one would be forced to do another course or ,go elsewhere . Truthfully since I've been on board instructing ,we've only denied Two people out of hundreds .
99.8% follow instruction and shoot to a degree required ,so as to pass the proficiency portion of the tests .

We had one azzclown who thought he was Wyatt Earp or Bill Hickok and as the class allows weapons of near all calibers ,it wasn't our decision as to what people bring . So yahoo shows up with a .357 hogleg replica Colt SAA and quick draw holster setup !. You just can't make true stories up like this one . So two of us tell him nice rig but You won't be drawing ,so DON'T as we have nearly #30 students on the line .

First call at 3 yd. is clear and bring ready and then we tell them two in the torso and holster . Next is two to the torso one to the head hold down at low ready . Yahoo lets go with a #5 fan all over the place ,it progressively got worse . When we were on the 10 yard line ,that yahoo had his weapon out and it wasn't down range or low ready while I was giving instructions on My end of the line ,so I started walking up towards him when all of a sudden his gun went off DOWN THE LINE . I grabbed it from him and held onto it ,the bullet whizzed right past an instructor .
That was It for Yahoo , I informed him he could pickup his pistol at the Local PD ,as he became argumentative then agitated . I had to get physical with him and took his ammo also . I informed him IF he didn't vacate the premises , I'd call the Sheriff and have him arrested and would press charges . I got the usual floppy mouth F this F that F all of you but he did leave . In 4.5 years Only incident ,as everyone else has been stellar ,even the Lady we had to turn down . She had severe arthritis and impossible for her to hold the gun properly ,we did Help her with suggestions of an easier firearm to purchase for self protection . She wasn't ever gonna carry ,someone misinformed her that somehow she needed a permit . We refunded her money and set her straight and ALL instructors took time to help her learn ,with one of our Semi autos .

Ok now I understand a little better. That honestly sounds completely reasonable for as far as requirements go. In my state the one and only permit has requirements that sound more similar to the enhanced in yours but not as logical. Here it involves classroom time for X number of hours in which you mainly learn legal stuff followed by range time in which you must demonstrate the ability to put X number of rounds on a target of a certain size at three different distances. I have friends and relatives who have gotten the permit I just never have because we dont have hardly any crime around here so I don't carry most of the time but direction stuff is headed in I'm gonna gety permit soon

Sounds like that idiot has no business with a permit

I like the cowboy with the fast draw rig! He was All-In! story would have been better if he showed up with a Colt 1860 Cap&Ball… would you still have trained him?
