It would definitely take out a chunk of meat if your hand was in front of the cylinder. A chain fired ball will only go a few yards but from point blank range it would do some damage.
I wouldn't. Even if a chain fire didn't get you the cylinder flash might. It would have to be light enough to hold it right in front of the trigger guard.

If I were going to do a new BP firearm, it would be either a repro of a Tranter or Adams revolver...or a matchlock. There's a gap in the matchlock pistol market, considering that the MLAIC has a competition for them.
