Looking to start reloading 06 and just wanted to see what powder ya'll prefer.
DittoIMR 4064
First post nailed it.IMR 4064
168 Garand ammo, ...IMR4895
Same, and 165gr BTSPs for everything from pronghorns to elk.IMR 4350
Agree with IMR4350 on heavier bullets. I get a wee bit more velocity using 4350 with the 180's. Accuracy is the same.I tend to have best results with IMR 4350 - but I also tend to prefer very heavy bullets in the '06. It may be on the slow side for 150s, but for 220s I've not found anything that works as well.
With your cast bullets are you powder coating, GC’s, both?Definitely H4350 for my hunting ammo in bolt action rifles. For my M1 rifles, it used to be IMR4895, but after giving Varget a try I'd have to go with it. Very similar in burn rate to IMR4895, but less temperature sensitive. My group sizes at 100 yards definitely seem just a bit better with Varget.
I may be the only one here shooting cast in .30-06, but for 180-200 grain cast bullets at 1500-2000 fps velocity, I love either 2400 or IMR4227.
