how could you know for sure if that was an actual rifle used in the movie?

i mean, the movie production company rented a bunch of rifles in that movie, maybe some were never even used in the filming.

Because the seller is including a signed letter from Stembridge very clearly states that the rifle in the auction was used in the filming of Red Dawn. Consdiering Stembridge's reputation, I wouldn't be so quick to doubt them.

For 2300, I'd ask for some kind of documentation, maybe a receipt from Stembridge, a photo, something or anything. It show the serial number, if there was a way to have some kind of paperwork that ties that serial to a production inventory, then that is a great piece. Otherwise to me it's a beat up AK with some marker paint on it. I mean there is a letter with it but nothing distinguishes it from a well made Word doc and for me I need better more tangible proof.

anyone can photoshop out a "letter of authenticity" lmao

i'm afraid i would need more proof than that, like the other poster said, a photo of an actor in the movie with it, clearly showing the serial# would be a good start.

but a call to the studio would be required as well, verifying the serial#

Just checked the seller's other auctions on GB, and one is a "genuine" RPG original PG-7VL round used in the movie from Blackhawk down. While it an inert RPG round is a great display piece there is no real proof that it is was used in the movie, I've seen alot of inert RPG-7's at shows and on GB, so what proof makes this one more special.

Also he has a Soviet 1975 Tula AKM Kit. "This is a complete, non-matching serial numbers kit. This kit was captured by Israel from the 'PLO'" Again I'm sure there may have been kits like this "captured" but I'm no history buff and don't really know how to track down serial numbers, but that's a pretty far fetch claim, kind like something you'd here from a seedy gunshop trying to make a sale.

The "certificates" are printed on 8x10 white paper, no seals, no signatures, no real proof. Most collectors items usually come with a "certificate" that looks like a certificate, not inkjet paper. And the "inventory tag" looks brand spanking new, no fading or bent paper, or even a little grime on the string, Red Dawn was made almost 2 decades ago, You'd think after it's changed hands a couple times there would be a little wear.

Funny how this collector's piece is for sale right when Swayze passes and they are out to make a new Red Dawn remake. Can you say taking advantage of people?!

For 2300, I'll sell you a beat up $300 AK and print you up a "certified certificate" with a catchy story behind it any day!

Then again if I am wrong, I guess I am just a overly analytical jerk.

yeppers, i'll photoshop (i'm a designer and have been using this program for years) a letter of authenticity stating my glock was used in die hard II and charge ya a grand or two for it, if ya feel like getting ripped off ;) lol

(i can even photoshop my serial# onto one in an actors hand, "proving" that it was used in the movie LMAO)

Hey, a fool is born every day... perfect timing of this listing with Patrick's death should be a pretty good indicator that it is a scam. I am sure this guy has been holding this gun for "many years" waiting for Swayze to die.

Save that document picture and blow it up in photo shop....I never saw a type writer that could type like a laser printer.

That is really a lame reason to spend an extra 2 grand on an old rifle. It dosen't even look good. I would rather have a new tricked out AR or AK than that old thing. It's not like it was a Guitar that belonged to Elvis, or an oxygen tank that MJ used, lol.

If you look at the letter that accompanied the RPG, it has a holographic seal on it from the memorobilia company. Rare Props is also a well known movie prop dealer.

It is a known fact that a bunch of Maadi AK's were used in the filming of Red Dawn. The serial number on this rifle would easily fit smack into the range range that known Red Dawn guns came from.

Hello friends and neighbors // Good man gone P.S.

I'd say there were so many firearms used in Red Dawn it could have been in the mix. Anything more than that IE: "Used by one of the Wolverines" is too good to be true.

Red Dawn was good but I liked Next of Kin better. I own them both on VHS lol.

I have a Winchester used in a John Wayne Movie for sale. Do I need to make up a cetificate for it or will people take my word for it.

Does it seem odd that a "Certificate of Authenticity" doesn't even list the manufacturer name? Nor model. Nor type. Nor caliber. Or anything at all.

Yes it says 'firearm' and lists a number, but it doesn't even state what kind of rifle/pistol/shotgun is being authenticated.

Rare Props may be a very well established and credible seller or movie props and weapons, but to justify the cost of a movie collector's piece, I'd want more than a sticker and a printed paper. Even if the sticker was real, you can just plop that down an a piece of paper, I mean thieves are pretty ingeniuous now a days.

If Rare Props did sell the piece, perhaps they could provide a more substantial proof of documentation. Scammers play off of big names all the time, for example people selling Aimpoints that are definitly not Aimpoints, or PSL passing them off as SVD's. I do not know much about AK's where do I look to see if this AK falls into the production dates of Red Dawn, I mean there were THOUSANDS and thousand of AK's made, it's like saying the Mosin 91/30 I got was used by Vasily Zaitsev because it was made during his time.

If you believe that last one I'll sell it to you for $5000 free ship!

Well it can't be Robert's unless he carves some notches into the stock with a butterfly knife ;)

I'll stick with much less expensive, much better condition AKs unless that thing is one of the 32 converted AKMs and on a Form 4, then it would be a pretty good deal even if it is beat to hell.

IMFDB for the movie
