Wow, so there are actually "rare" steel AK mags out there that command a collector preimium? I was entirely unaware.

Yeah, there are definitely collectible AK mags. I sold a Bosnian Fleur-de-Lis mag for $95 probably a year ago, well before this panic started. The Bosnian 1-ribs and 2-ribs, Russian slabsides, steel Valmets, and early aluminum waffles also command a (sometimes huge) premium.

Oh have mercy on my soul! Shoulda put up my 75 rd drum for sale - $490!?!?!?!!!

I'm surely gonna be kicking myself for not jumping on the bandwagon, if there are NO bans forthcoming!

How do you know

someone (friend, relative, etc) wasn't bidding as well, to "up" the bids?

I know it is illegal and against policy, but who is to stop some people from doing that? People do illegal things every day and I'm sure on these auction sites, people do things against the "policy" of the auction site more than daily.

It's called GREED.

Yeah, I think we are still seeing a lot of post-election BS right now too.

I went into Sportsman's Warehouse just a couple of days ago (looking for a rifle). I couldn't help but notice that virtually their entire pistol rack had been wiped out! I'm guessing that we're talking around 100+ models that were out-of-stock. They were also nearly completely out of brass, low on a lot of ammo, etc. I am sort of a regular in that store, and jokingly asked one of the guys at the counter if they were going out of the gun business. He sort of laughed and agreed that it almost looked like it!

Honestly, I still don't see any significant gun legislation being passed within the next year. In some ways I'd like to hope that every empty gun slot on that rack was caused by a newbie who decided that NOW is the time to get into shooting... If that unlikely scenario was true, at least this election would have served to swell the ranks of pro-gun gun owners! Sadly, based on watching previous panic-buys over the years, I imagine that most of those guns were purchased by folks who have collections not unlike all of us on these types of forums!

Sigh. I can't wait until I can find stuff again!

something tells me the "friend of a friend" is along the right lines with the $105 AK mag... if it were truly a collectable the auction wouldn't have started at $10 like it did... being that the buyer has hundreds of feedback items on their account I don't see it being a n00b mistake paying that much.

again I could be totally wrong, it wasn't the first and won't be the last time...

The two auctions posted do prove the market is right. No one took them at that price. Obviously, they are worth less.

Edit: Now I see the later set of auctions. That is insane, I agree.

Um, in my short time on this earth, I've learned that the better question would be when are people not out of their minds?
Better not. That moment of lucidity would have devastating effects.

I sit before you, a prime example of the mindless. I have a Rock River Arms upper on order (for about 700 bucks) and just ordered a Loaded Standard M1A1 for $1650. Good purchases, but I felt moved to buy them because of our President-elect's past run record and statements.

I may have lost my mind, but I did it with deliberation and due diligence. Deliberation, due diligence, and angst. Deliberation, due diligence, angst, and a credit card. Deliberation, due diligence, angst, a credit card, and some egging-on by THR members.

Doh!

smells like schill bidding to me....

Seller has multiple accounts (one for every kid in the family) posts auction without a reserve, then bids his own auction to benchmark the price for Joe Sucker.

He likely then tells Gunbroker that the buyer failed to close the transaction and avoids paying any commission.

All of those auctions I looked at have one thing in common..... a single bid!

Like all the other online auctions.... there's always a dirtbag out there who will work the system.

There is asking price and offered price, if they come together and a deal is made, that's what makes a "market price".

I voted yes before I even looked at the links. After seeing the links, and the ones that other people posted, I want to change my vote. To "absolutely, positively, without any question, out of their mind." Can it be arranged to have that added as a choice?

And for the record, if it was a true Russian built Kalashnikov serial number 009, I might be willing to part with $3000 for a AK. Otherwise, if it doesn't have the happy switch, $500 is too much for a well bent piece of sheet metal. (Of course the aforementioned Kal. would have the switch.) Even with the switch I won't be paying more than $2000 for an AK. I mean, firing my shotgun, with 3 loads of 00 buckshot will give me the same group as a FA AK with 30 rounds.

OK, rant over. Also for the record, I dislike ARs also, but that is from a previously bad experience with an old Bushmaster. Things may be better by now, I've been thinking about possibly getting another. But there again, it'd only be worth about $600 to me (and that's for a top-of-the-line, Colt, DPMS, etc.) So once all this madness is over, and all those people that rushed out and bought decide to start selling, I might get one.

You have to love the free market. You don't have to participate to get some enjoyment out of it. You can just watch.

Of course, what is the 'last one' of anything worth? What ever some one will pay for it!
