Yesterday I was killing time in my favourite gunshop and I saw this sporterized Czech BRNO Mauser 98 rechambered in 30-06.
Wood stock (a real sporter stock not a cut-down military one), kind of economic, no frills (no forearm and pistol grip caps, just few basic engravings) but in very good shape, no major scratches , just the usual little scuff here and there.....raised cheeckrest, swivel studs and a decent leather sling.
The work seems to be done properly, no misalignment, no canted sights, etc....everything is nicely fitted together.
Butt plate is missing (the previous owner put a slip on recoil pad on)
It has iron sights (rear adjustable both vertically and horizontally) and it is drilled for scope (Leupold mount I think)
Barrel is 24", action is buttery smoth, no broken parts, magazine is in excellent shape, no rust and bluing is 70-80%....crown is good, rifling is sharp.
Asking price is $165 but the shop owner is willing to let it go for $140 out of the door.
What do you think?? It is a good price??? You need about $25 for a good recoil pad and the price of a Leupold mount for the scope.
I may be interested in another cheap 30-06...and one of my friend is looking for one....this could be a good choice..
Opinions???
Regards
