Has anyone found "Their" perfect rifle? Not "The" Perfect rifle but the rifle that is perfect for them. That one that does everything you bought it for and got everything you expected from it.

I have wanted a rifle that is a great time at the range. Shoots at or better than my skill level. Is always reliable in function and something that would serve me well in emergency and survival situations. Possible competition in a little way down the road.

For some reason my two ARs are just not fitting the bill. They are fun but I wouldn't take them hunting unless left with no choice. My Bolt action Savage 10 is way more accurate than I am. No fast target acquisition though.

I have come to the conclusion that I expect too much from a rifle.

I realize that different rifles serve different purposes, but for me, my Cimarron "ElDorado" is the best "all purpose" rifle in my arsenal. :)

remington 700 mountain rifle w/ walnut stock is my perfect rifle.

you aren't expecting too much from a rifle - you just haven't narrowed down exactly what you want.

look to a remington 700 lvsf and top it w/ something like a 2.5-8 leupold - you will get your accuracy and fast target acquisition. if/when you become good w/ a bolt gun, you can have a fresh round chambered and ready to go before your sight picture is back. not as fast as an auto, but plenty fast.

I have. I wanted a dedicated coyote rifle and found exactly what I wanted. It's a G2 Contender with a 23" bull barrel in .223. It is relatively light weight so it's easy to carry around. It has turned out to the most accurate rifle I've ever shot. It will regularly turn in groups under .3" at 100 yards with my handloads.

I have another that comes very close. It was a great rifle when I bought it 35 years ago but it has developed some drawbacks over the years. It is a Ruger #1 in 22-250 and it has gained a lot of weight in those years. :D I can still wag it around but not as far as I used to. It doesn't give up much in accuracy to the .223 as it will do .6" groups. I bought it as a long range prairie dog gun but the dogs are very scarce now days due to heavy hunting pressure and plague. I don't even look for them anymore.

1953 Winchester Model 70 in 30-06 , original steel butt plate and all. Glass bedded, trigger tuned to 2 pounds and a Night Force 2,5-10x scope in Warne Maxi Mounts. MOA with good loads and ALLWAYS works as required on anything.
However it is not specialized enough!

They're all perfect when you buy them. That other stuff only happens later....especially when you develop a wandering eye.

This should stir up the masses:

MY perfect rifles seem to be one of my AK variants. Lightweight, tough as nails, reliable, ugly, doesnt need to be babied, not scared to scratch it up, accurate enough, easy to swing around so follow up is quick.

The round is a hard hitter, hard enough for hunting. I dont have to worry if it gets rained on, it most likely needs a bath anyway.

That or my Ruger 10-22.

I bought a H&R Handi-rifle in .30-06 for a moose hunt in Ont. It was perfect for that. We banged around in and out of boats catching walleye/glassing for moose, riding atv's down logging roads for a week. I kept ammo in a sleeve on the stock. It was quick to load/unload. The gun is short but not light. With a good 3x9 glass it suited my needs perfectly and was cheap. One guy liked it so well he bought for himself when we got home.
It will shoot minute of paper plate at 300 yds.
(Never saw a moose all week)

At this time this is my 'perfect' rifle.
Savage 110 30-06
Tasco 8-32 World Class
Boyds Varmint stock

A true sub-minute of angle for five shots rifle.
Less than $500 invested.

Next month,,,,,,,,,,,,,,who knows?

You are not asking too much. Get a pump action 760 or 7600 or a leveraction Marlin 336 and mount a Williams peep or a low power scope.

perfect is hard to come by
"you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince/princess"
been lucky though, own several "perfect for me" K-frames and J-frames, and one Colt in handguns, and only had to kiss a few frogs along the way

in rifles...
well "pert-near-perfect (for me)" includes -
Browning A-bolt 22LR rimfire
Savage thumbhole stock BBSS 17 HMR
Puma '92 in 38/357 and/or Marlin 1894C
Marlin 18'' straight grip 30-30
Remington model 7 in 243

frogs I sure would like to kiss (if could do and still keep the family fed)
Browning '92 in 38/357
Browning Low-wall in rimfire or 223
Ruger Hawkeye bolt "flamethrower" in 223
Browning straight grip BLR in 223
Browning T-bolt in 22WMR or mebbe a (Browning made) Winchester 9422M
CZ carbine in 7.62x39
Cooper Jackson Squirrel Rifle
etc.
etc.

next best thing to money is imagination ???

Have to agree with a couple of posts here, including the one above. It's the one I don't own yet. That said all of them were the perfect gun the day I bought them. Also have to agree with the ak poster. I feel the same way about my mini 30, that round is the perfect one for a shtf scenario and the garand action takes a beating and keeps on eating. So I probably would choose that rifle even over my m1a scout squad (I know same action but different cal.). I suppose all of my Rifles are the perfect one for me in a particular scenario otherwise I would part with them. Probably the most practical round is the 22lr or 12 ga shotgun in that ammo will be found for these two in every other garage in the US.

"Has anyone found "Their" perfect rifle?"

Absolutely! I have several of them.

Every gun in my safe holds a place near and dear to my heart. As for a special rifle, I'd have to go with my CZ 550FS in .308. Then there's my Winchester Model 69A and my.... as you can see the list goes on.

These three are getting close. I used to have the perfect rifle in a M-70 chambered for 358 NORMA MAG. But I sold it like an idiot....
Now I am building a 416 TAYLOR along the same lines except I am using a 1929 era VZ-24 action.
