Colt New Agent 45 takedown

I just received my Colt New Agent. I haven't even fired it yet and can't wait. The takedown is somewhat different than my 1911 A1. I have been browsing the internet and happen to see a new "gizmo" to aid in the takedown of the Kimber 1911 Ultra. See the attached link.

The question is would any of these work on the New Agent?

I do have to disagree with some of you that don’t think any tools are needed to take-down and reassembly the Colt New Agent. Before I describe the issue I do have one weak hand do to nerve damage from chemotherapy for cancer. So this may be a factor.

Disassembly went okay without any tool but reassembly was another story. Without any tool I found that with full pressure on the guide rod the barrel lug would slip from the forward position and the guide rod would cock when attempting reinstall the slide on the frame preventing the slide from sliding to the reassembly position. The colt manual states that the barrel lug must be in the forward position for reassembly. After several tries I used a small pair of visegrips with padded jaws to take full pressure off and center the guide rod. Reassembly went smooth after that.

This morning I ordered a take down tool from NDZ Performance http://www.ndzperformance.com/Kimber Accessories.htm that is intended for the Kimber Ultra II series (short). From the picture the guide rod assembly appears to be identical to the Colt New Agent. I will let you all know later how the tool works.

I also have on hand some scratch prevention devices available from ISPT http://1911-ispt.com/buy-now.shtml the ISPT - Elite Custom model is the right size for the Colt New Agent and my Springfield Armory NM 1911A1. I can tell you they work great especially protecting a new pistol that is still very tight.

Your technique won't work on re-assembly off New Agent because it would cause the guide rod to cock and any movement off center will cause (1) the barrel lug to slip from the full forward position and (2) the small guide plate on the end of the guide rod to missalign and not clear the frame preventing the slide from moving all the way to the re-assembly position. This may have worked before the re-design of the guide rod. Colt recalled serial numbered pistols with serial numbers GTO1001 - GTO4505 mine is much newer with Serial number GTO6509. Okay after having much difficulty taking down my new Colt New Agent 45ACP I found something that makes the job easy. I also recommend the scratch pevention tool from ISPT. See the product information attached below. After taking down and reassembling my New Agent several times today I highly recommedn thes items. They make it easy to take down and reassemble your New Agent easily.
