Colt New Agent questions

Colt makes the New Agent 1911 and a Defender 1911. The Defender has sights. Is that the only difference?

Can a good 'smith cut dovetails and add sights to the New Agent?

The Defender has a stainless slide, Novak style sights, and a beavertail. The New Agent has a blued carbon steel slide, a notched out G.I. style grip safety, and the trench sight. Both have a 3" barrel on an aluminum officer's sized frame.

If you want a New Agent with sights you can either find one of the new Talo editions, or you can have a competent gunsmith mill the slide. The trench makes finding sights a little difficult, but not impossible.

That's the only major difference I can tell (I own a New Agent). Besides the finish and the grips. The Defenders beavertail is wider if I remember correctly.

Why would you want to add sights to the New Agent? You in love with the look of the gun but not sold on the sighting system? I'd just buy a Defender if I wanted sights.

As mention above, the Talo edition has the XS sites . I just traded for one with the Crimson Trace laser and really like it. It might actually replace my Defender Plus as my carry gun- once it's broke in. To answer your question , I have seen "older" New Agents with sights mounted, so I guess it can be done.

A trench sight is perfectly fine with a little training. I've shot some pretty long distances with my friends accurately using the trench sights and actually had to get used to "normal" sights again when I stupidly let go of my New Agent.

The look of the New Agent is the only 1911 design I actually like and the trench sight is accurate enough for anything that a "business" gun should be used for. Is it for bulls eye shooting? Dunno, but saying the trench sight "isn't a sight" just kinda goes to show you should pick one up and shoot one.
You'll be surprised. Because whenever someone says peep sights are so great I have to wonder what they're thinking, but I don't go around telling people it isn't a sight. >.O

SO yeah, my 9mm New Agent treated me very, very well.

I thought the hammer was different, the safety lever was different, and the beavertail was different too.

I have both . I lean to the Defender for carry. With out those silly rubber grips of course. . I still shoot low with the Agent . Both have been and are great pistols Never a bit of trouble.

My agent is older one. Has the staked front sight and no Beaver tail Has Colts better idea. I am 1 of maybe 10 that likes the Colt design duck bill.
