I haven't seen any news of this announcement yet. Guns.com just caught my eye with the announcement of Colt's "New Agent." It's a .45 ACP pocket pistol. According to the article it's 4 inches in height, 6 inches in length, and around 0.8 inches wide, with a capacity of 7+1. That sounds near impossible!

It has a hefty weight for a pocket pistol, weighing in at 24 ounces (this is around the same weight as a 3" 1911, such as the Kimber Ultra). This sounds like a very interesting handgun. It seems to look and function just like a 1911, with the blaring exceptions being that this pistol is double-action only (really don't like this part) and has no sights (something that, to me, is acceptable for a pocket pistol).

I've been looking at picking up the Sig Sauer P238 because it's essentially a Colt Mustang, which is essentially a pocket version of a 1911 chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge. But this new Colt New Agent...it's caught my eye. The article doesn't mention a release date (other than, of course, 2011). This is the first I've heard of it; any other information?

I'd like to purchase one, but hoping to find one at a lower price than what's available right now...The gutter sights don't bother me either...BTW, there was a sticky, I thought it was on this site-perhaps not, that showed various Colt recalls that included the New Agent. I can't remember just what it was.....

It seems like I'm pretty behind...so this gun has already been released?

EDIT: Okay, for whatever reason, I've always heard of the name "Colt Defender" but never New Agent. So I assumed this was a new gun. Nothing to see here, folks...

I had the 9mm variety of it. Great little gun. Loved mine, right up to the point where in a fit or boredom I traded it in.

I'm very confused as to why Guns.com seems to think that this gun a new. Oh well.

I don't know where you are but Academy in Round Rock Texas has had one for atleast a year. I say one because I doubt anyone has bought it.

I'd be interested with a set of Novaks sunk in so you could do more than a Colt 1903 "take DAT you dirty rat!" Another "guttersnipe" lunacy!

The New Agent is the cover article in the new Guns Magazine. It was a nice write up, but didn't go into much detail. It's a small gun, but how does it work? Is it a Colt Pony that grew up? Is there a transfer bar running from the trigger to the sear? My Pony has a fairly hard trigger pull. I wonder what Colt can do with a little bigger gun?

While you choice of firearms are very personal, I think there might be better choices on the market. Some factors to keep in mind include:

1. any .45ACP 1911 design with a barrel/slide length shorter than 4.25" will have narrower window of reliable function due to the altered timing of the reduced mass and travel available...the original engineering recommendation for the OACP was a 3.75" barrel/slide was over-ridden by marketing who wanted the a .75" difference from the Commander length.
2. Colt's last foray into a DAO 1911, the Double Eagle, was less than successful due mostly to it's trigger design. Technology has advanced, but it remains to be seen how far Colt has progressed along that road.

I would look very closely at the track record of the Sig 238 also. The design has some basic limitations which would rise concerns about it's reliability as a SD gun

yeti, Thanks for posting the link to the Guns Magazine write up on Colt's new New Agent DAO version. I really like to take a look at one of these in person. Colt's manufacturing website has the new DAO version on there, but doesn't give much info on it (very basic specs). I tried searching the Internet, including Gunbroker, GunsAmerica, etc., no dice on availability, it appears the gun has not yet been released by Colt yet. My guess is they are waiting for the 2011 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, in January to show it off before releasing it out to the distributors and dealers (Edit: After further searching, I found that Colt already introduced them at the 2010 SHOT Show earlier this year). Oh well, guess I'll just have to wait and see when they become available.
