Even though I have several compact pistols I'm more of a revolver fan. I've finally found one I'm comfortable with that I can actually shoot. I love this old 70's S&W Chief's Special snubby I just traded for. I don't know why anyone would even consider selling one once they have fired it. What a little gem! It was priced a bit high imo but it looks like the original owner kept it in the safe the whole time he had it. It was in the gun shop less than 24 hours before I got it. The dealer called me on my cell. He knew just the bug I'd been looking for.:D
 
LOL! Right. I'm thinking "Chief's Special" pix. Particularly since I recently acquired The Best Snubbie In The World, aka my Detective Special. I need to work to get good enough with it but oooooohhhhhhhh my, that trigger! And it has a bobbed hammer so I ***must*** shoot DA (which is good for me, but, like broccoli, might not be my own choice...)

It lives in my pocket and, when I can't carry it there (I'm fond of tight-fitting tee shirts) in my purse or just sitting and taking the air on the coffee table in front of me. So its cousin is of interest, of course.

I bought my S&W MD36 in 1969 and I have since purchased a MD37 Air Weight. I would never sell either gun. For 30 yrs that is the only gun that I shot, I've shot snakes, turtles and frogs with mine and not with shot shells. I've shot snakes from a tractor. The more you shot it the better you will get, they are a lot more accurate than most people think. That is my favorite pistol. I always carried mine in a shoulder holster.
 
Have my Model 36 for 34 years now.............only gun I wouldn't sell that I own...........absolutely reliable.....always.

Mine came from a widow who sold her second husband's "nightstand gun" that he bought new in 1971. She survived three husbands too and guess she no longer needed the old nightstand gun. I don't think it ever got fired much at all. Nary a nick on it and it has remained that way for the past three years of careful pocket carry by me!!!

I put the mint, original stocks (serial numbered to the gun) in the safe for preservation and bought a set of Patrick Grashorn's (Grashorn Gunworks) handmade Elk Stags . . . for beauty and durability and added a Tyler T-grip for a very comfortable-shooting gun.

I carry my little pocket gun in either an DeSantis "Nemesis" or Uncle Mike's pocket holster. Both are gentle synthetic holsters that won't hold moisture like a leather holster . . . and thus won't mess up the revolver's nice finish. Both holsters are cheap and reliable, and I use whichever one fits a specific front pocket better!

Just giving you some "food for thought. Hope you end up enjoying your Chief's Special as much as I enjoy both this Model 37 Airweight Chief's Special and its nice '64 Model 36 brother (that started my love affair with the little J-frames about three years ago.

I guess they're ok......But I'd be much better off if they lived at least 50+ miles from my house! It's just too easy to feed the "addiction." And I think somebody there releases some kind of gas in the air that drastically effects my judgement. I need to talk myself out of trading for a Ruger BH before I go by there this morning. I do NOT need it! Gotta keep telling myself that.
 
Model 36

I have had my Model 36 Chiefs Special for years and i would never let this one get away from me. I think everyone needs one. The one i have still looks just like it did when it came from the Smith & Wesson Factory in 1971. Great little Snubnose........
 
Just got back from firing another 100 rounds. Takes a while since I run a snake thru it every 20 rounds or so. Probably totally unecessary. If I lived someplace I could walk out the door and shoot my handguns whenever the urge hit me I think I'd have to load my own. That wouldn't work either. I'd just shoot more.
 
The little suckers shoot quite well too! . . . as this 45+ year-old Model 36 attests . . .

Put a few rounds through it again yesterday. Also found my sales receipt. Had forgotten I'd actually paid $365 for it. Would have been better with the 1974 grips on it instead of the Pacs. but it's still worth the $ to me. I don't leave home without it. I made the mistake of putting my keys in the same pocket. I hope I can get the scratches buffed out. What an idiot!!!!
