I am looking for an quality handgun for a reasonable price, I tried the Sigma and after several bad experences and my friends blowing apart in his hands I decided it is time for somthing else. I know I like the Springfeild XD and Colt 1911s but they are a little out of my range at the moment, should I pick up a 24/7 or try to save up for an XD/1911?

I shot a friend's 24/7 OSS DS in .45ACP awhile back (probably less than a magazine full) and when I wanted to try another auto I purchased one. Absolutely the best choice in a mostly blind purchase I have ever done. I have 4 other .45s and the OSS is the most comfortable of them all. Accuracy is superb and reliability after about 1000 rounds is excellent. At $355.00 + transfer fees from Bud'sGuns, I feel like it was one of my best purchases ever.

Anybody tried one in a 40 S&W? Nothing aginst the .45 but I feel that the 40 hits just as hard and has 2 to 3 more shots in the mag.

Check out my website (signature) sometime. Really nice pistol!! Don't worry about the extra shots. The .45 ACP more than makes up for the loss of capacity. A .40 might expand to .45 or more, but a .45 never shrinks to less than. 450 ".

IF you are talking about a defense gun its not about caliber its about positive hits. If you shot 40 S&W better stick with it if you shoot 45 ACP better move that direction.

If it were me I would save my money and get a better gun. Taurus guns are very hit or miss. Some run great others do not. They do a decent job with other peoples base designs like their 92 and their 1911s but guns they designed and developed are not very good IMHO.

By spending $200 more you are really opening up the choices and the quality of the pistol you are getting IMHO. If I had stay under $400 I would look at used gun from people like Sig, S&W, Glock and CZ.

Had one in 40 recoil was so slow with factory loads it would stovepipe every round. I am not a Taurus hater I love the PT92 and PT1911 but from my experience the 24/7 is junk.

Too true, but according to the FBIs shootout data the .40 S&W has a higher one shot stop % and drops the bad guys faster, mind you the differences were very slight when comparing premium bullets. The 40 packs 9mm speeds and near 45ACP bullet weights, the caliber of the bullet going in makes little difference. Anyone wanting proof of that should see the wounds my tiny little 6.5x55 makes on deer absolutly astonishing, bone fragment and liquified organs blown out the silver dollar sized exit wound. Kenetic energy, bullet mass and bullet construction make all the difference. Wound canals are usualy much wider then the expanded bullet itself especaly in high speed bullets like the 40 S&W/10mm. Combine 45 cal/bullet weight and 357 mag speed and you have the .454 which will quickly drop a mature brown bear or turn an attacker's vital organs into a gel like substance :)

I've been very pleased with my 24/7 Pro Compact in .45. It fits my hand well, it conceals easily, carries 10 rounds of .4ACP, and has been 100% reliable since new. Trigger is decent, it's smooth but maybe a little long and mushy in DA. Nice crisp reset though.

I have a 24/7 pro in .40. After a while the ribber grip started to tear so I took it off and textured the grip. Trigger is decent, accuracy is good (Not like my glock or m&p, but good). For the price, its hard to beat.

Well, $355 is a lot to pay for a transitional piece.
Add the tax background check now you are up to about $400, now a holster for another $50
When it comes time to move up you will loose a good $100 easy.
I would save up for what you want for $500 less if you put some time into looking for.
I am getting tired of gunbroker and the fishing for prices but found this one which pooks reasonable, then there is shipping and $20 for the dealer.

Well it is $315 here, no background fees just a regular sales tax, and I would not consider it if I thought I would want to trade out of it in a month. If that were the case I would no doubt save the extra $$$ and buy an XD which by the way is the most accurate semi auto I have ever shot. I would tell you the groups I shot but nobody would beleive me. Truth be told that kind of accuracy is not really needed in personal defence situations. The difference between a 7" group at 15 yards and a 2.5" group at 15 yards means a hill of beans at 7 feet where most shootouts happen. Reliability is everything in defence.

Can you detail the differences between the Pro and the OSS?

Check out the Ruger SR40. It's less than $100 more than the taurus. The reviews have been good.

The Sigma probably works so keep it until you find a "better' pistol like a Glock, SIG or FNH. Considering current prices, trade in value would be arround $125 max. Or you could Get a RIA 1911 for less than $400, it would be better than the Taurus. Taurus makes a good revolver IMO, but I have reservations about any of their pistols. It's your money, but I think you will be just as disapointed with a Taurus, as you are with your Sigma.

Bought a 27/7 9mm from a friend who only ran 30 rnds or so through it and claimed he couldn't hit anything with it. I have since put another 3 or 4 hundred rnds through it with no issues at all..nice gun and its now my bedside gun.

Just bear in mind...

If the .40S&W is the preferred caliber, then the KABOOM scenario should NOT be ignored, especially in reference to the Glock.

I think FEATURES and FUNCTIONALITY, not rabid attachment to name brand, should influence decisons. I recently bought the Taurus 24/7 Pro and I am completely satisfied with it - and so as several of my pals, some of whom are quite knowledgeable about firearms.

My father has one in .45, and it's a great pistol. I have handled it at the range and in a word: comfortable.

The grips on it really make it easy to control and maintain a positive grip on the pistol.

WOW!!!

The Glock haters never miss a chance to take a shot even on a thread about Taurus, incredible. That issue has been resolved for years.

I do not own a 24/7 but I do own two PT1911s and they are great guns. I have been fondling their 92 clone recently and have been barely able to resist the urge. Taurus makes some very good guns. That said, I prefer the look and the feel of the Millenium pro over the 24/7.

I own a 247 pro 9mm. i absolutely love this thing. gonna hit about 1k rounds today as a matter of fact, 100% reliable. Trigger takes some getting used to, but its a fairly easy gun to shoot. i say go for it.

Unsupported barrel

CZ223, could you please clarify what "issue has been resolved for years". Thanks.

That said, I prefer the look and the feel of the Millenium pro over the 24/7.

I would urge you to go that direction as well. the Millennium *PRO* series is a very, very decent set of guns. But make sure you don't get the normal Millenniums. I hear those had a pretty high lemon ration. 8)

Okay, lemons the guy says, huh? No much anyway.

I can bring 106 typed pages of links from those who have the various 24/7 models and like them.

Right from the horse's mouth.
That and there are these recent links as well.

While I do not own a 24/7 pistol I do own it's direct kin, the PT111 Mil Pro and the PT132 Mil Pro and find these very durable and reliable guns.

Yes, these are not perfect, but no design or model is. Yes, there are a few bad ones here and there, but no more so than for other brands and models.

As for the turn around times are getting shorter. I can bring that along if need be.
