So, apparently ammo prices are going up April 1st due to copper shortages, which means shooting will be more expensive than ever. I've been considering getting a press forever, but I just can't justify the time effort and cost right now to go ahead and do it.

So what are you guys doing? Hand-loading more? Buying huge bulk now? I actually setup a website for myself to do live ammo-price scanning at ammoscanner.com, and there are other sites that do the same thing but aren't real time or require users to put in info.

I'm wondering if it's worth it to buy a huge bulk right now and sell to my friends when they run out...

P.S:
I'd really like feedback on the site via PM or at the contact link on the site. I've made it my side project for now, and working on it is pretty fun.

I'm not spreading hysteria that will drive up demand and dry up supplies.

What are you doing about it?

I've started reloading everything I shoot from .30-06 to .380. I've been experimenting with different versions of lead as I can get 500 rnds for the price of 185 JHP's. I still keep a box of Hornady or GD HP's and Speer and Sierra SPBT's for the 06. Will my guns get dirtier and need more cleaning using the lead? Of course. But, I never exptected shooting to be a clean sport.

If you got this infor from 411man or whatever name he goes by now, ignore it...Im convinced he works for the ammo industry and likes spreading mistruths

Who says ammo is going up on April 1st?.......Sure, everything in the world seems to be going up, but what makes April 1st the day that all the various ammo makers/suppliers are going to raise their prices?

I agree ... hysteria and fear always work in their favor. Let's start a rumor that a major copper vein was discovered in Peru. Pass it on.

Or how about a "don't shoot any bullets day"....That'll really scare the ammo makers into lowering prices. It always seems to work well when people do the don't buy gas for a day gig.

April first . . . is someone going to be fooled?

I haven't even touched the stuff I've bought in the last six months.

Anyone see what lead ingots are going for at the gun showes?

Last saterday 3/26/11 lead was selling for $1.00 a lb. This was range lead poured into ingots.

Haven't heard anything about April 1 but the ammo we have been getting into the store for the last couple of months has cost us less from the wholesaler and we have lowered our prices accordingly.

I have to keep up on metals prices for work. Yes, copper is up (as are other metals), but it's just coming out of a lower period. Fluctuations in metal happen all the time, but I still believe that we're working off of excess supply on ammo, which should offset raw materials cost for a while.

In all fairness, at least MBC told us they were raising their prices....I got 2k in the mail today to beat the increase.

Well I heard the price of .40S&W, 38 Special, and .357 magnum will all be real low due to finding civil war surplus spam cans... about 2 million of them. How cool is that? Smokeless and none corrosive..

Stay away from my copper! It's all mine!

preciousssssss copperrrrrrrrrrr, all mineeee...

Self fulfilling prophecies start like this.

"Everyone, prices are gonna go up on X (ammo, gasoline, etc)! Better buy it cheap while you can!"

*everyone runs to the store and buys as much of X as they can carry. due to the spike in demand, prices rise*

"Told you so!"

Ah, who cares if prices go up. Big deal, who doesn't have some extra cash sitting around anyway. Does anyone have cable TV, drink coffee, smoke cigarretes, drink alcohol, consume junk food? If you answered yes to any of the above, you have no reason to complain.
An ammo price increase just might help you to watch less television, smoke less, drink less, and lose weight. Sounds like a good deal!
