Ammo Prices Going Up April 1st?

Well there is more than oil to factor in. It's our over inflated dollar.
People act amazed that Gold went to 1000 bucks an ounce recently! that doesn't mean that Gold is worth more... it means our dollar is wirth less. The Federal reserve keeps putting more money in circulation and we have no gold standard. Everything will be more expensive, but it's not really more expensive... our dollar is just worth less. Unfortunately, we aren't seeing any raises to assure that we are still able to afford the same things we could when our dollar was worth more, so slowly the middle class is being shaved away.
it's sad really.
So Oil si more, copper is more, steel is more.... everything is more. Why aren't we seeing mandatory wage increases to go with it?
Because the Federal Reserve is a big powerful scam artist with nothing at it's heart but greed.
Sorry guys... it's gonna get more expensive. Breaks my heart.

Wait, you're suggesting the Federal Reserve should implement some sort of mandatory wage increases?

Why do you hate America?

Flyboy, I like you. You are a funny guy.

But what is this pick on the new kid?

Yes, I have a fairly good understanding of finance and economics when I graduated summa cum laude for my MBA. In the least I learned enough to time the market where I've made a killing on EOG Resources stock the last two years.

Not sure what any of this has to do with a gun site though.

I was really just trying to see if the guy at Cabelas was bs-ing me to try to get me to buy more.

Gotta say I do love this site though and find most people to be very friendly and helpful.

Quote: Ammo prices are always going up along with everything else. I'm still buying ammo though.....just not shooting it.

I'd be curious if no one purchased it for say...a month, if it would go down.

I'm going to have start reloading. I just can't afford to shoot regularly, or I don't want to try to afford it. My .22 lr rifle is the only gun that's truly fun with no regrets.

I've been hearing this too from a couple of places.

We're all kicking ourselves for not buying 7.62x39 at $79 for 1K and Portugese .308 at $140 per 1K a few years ago.
I know I am.

IMO, not buying now is a bad idea.
Even if you buy more than you need now you'll probably be able to make a profit on it later.
I did that with some SA .308 but I definitely no longer have enough .308 to sell any more off.

Wish I had taken a loan out and bought 10K rounds of that too...

I'm reloading my own 40 S&W ammo, Ranier bullets, once fired cases, for $6/50, been doin' it for two years now.:) 357 magnum, thats running me the same price, $6/50.:D I've got the standard Lee 4-hole Turret press, I bought the "kit" for $100 and a set of dies for $30, two years ago. I've never looked back, to hell with factory ammo at $30/100 for winchester white box at wally world.

My local wal-mart has the federal bulk pack 22's for $11.97/550, I bought another brick the other day. I also just ordered another 1000 Ranier 155's for $89.95 on sale at midway, I figure there will be another price increase on those too, so I'm stocking up.:)

The Remington UMC 40 S&W ammo was running $90/250 rounds at Sportsmans Warehouse the other day.:what::eek:

Reloading helps, but re "must by because you can't make them components", have you priced primers recently? To say that they have "gone through the roof" is something of an understatement.

Was $96 for the same thing here 2 weeks ago wen I was last at Sportsmans...

Almost afraid to see what it might be at by now.:uhoh:

I reload .45, .38 and .357 because when I bought the guns that they go with .45's and .357's were expensive to buy ammo for. I remember buying my G26 and thinking 9mm? Naw, I don't need to reload for that, anybody can afford to by 9mm. :what:

Of course that plan has changed drastically now that 9mm is approaching the old .45 prices. However, with a Glock the reloading choices are either use expensive plated or fmj bullets or buy an aftermarket barrel at 100 bucks or so.

My G26, which used to be one of my favorite carry guns just sits in the safe these days because of the price of ammo and my .45 Ruger and my Sp101 get all the carry time because they are the ones that I shoot thanks to reloading. :scrutiny:

All ammo prices have been going up for well over a year. This is not new and it is not news. It is however a direct result of China becoming the worlds biggest manufacturing state. They are soaking up resources at amazing rates. All sorts of metals, minerals, oil, steel, etc have gone sky high because of it.

What you are paying now is more than it was a year ago. That was more than a year before. Next year we will be screaming "Where will it end!?"

Mark my words... it hasn't even gotten bad yet. :scrutiny:

I'm still buying winchester small pistol primers for $21.95/1000 + tax at the local gun show's here, I stocked up on 3 bricks at the last show.

Yes Alan I have. I'm a price checking fool.:D
Even though I have uncounted thousands of primers put up already, I bought two more cases (10,000) at the last Ft Worth gun show for $220 OTD.
(the last primers I bought were $11/1,000 and now they are about $24/1,000:( )

Even at todays price I can still load 9mm for about $4.00+.

Bullet= 6 cents (FMJ IMI bullets from Midway, now sold out)
Powder= about 1 cent
Primer= 2.4 cents
Brass= no cost (been picking it up for years free)
Total cost= $4.70/50 rounds (time to handload= 8-10 minutes)

And my normal practice ammo uses lead bullets, which makes the pistol ammo cost about $2.50/50

Another reloading cost cutter is ordering powder online for about a total cost of about $14/pound. Where as it is about $20+/pound at the gun shows.

I've been buying the couple local Wal Marts out of Remington 22LR for a few weeks.
Don't know how much I've got but I'm having trouble finding room for it. :D

Now I'm going to get a "little bit" of 12 ga..

I just got 1200rds of 9mm shipped to my door, from Cabelas, this week.

The retail store closest to me didn't have the UMC in stock, and the 4.99 shipping was cheaper than my gas would have been anyways.

If prices of metals is driving prices, then WHY......

I certainly understand the law of demand on metals - especially from China - but can anyone tell me why primers have jumped from $22/1000 (4-6 months ago) to $28/1000 now? The whole frigg___g box only weighs a pound!!

Clearly, the more you buy, the better your rate. If you have 5 or 10 friends that shoot the same caliber as you (or calibers, even), you might want to look into a bulk buy. Gun shops and FFLs can generally get a palette of ammo for much lower price per round than when you buy by the case or box.

I see no evidence of this. Take a look at the latest "group buy" on THR. Using the purchasing power of all interested individuals, the prices turned out to be quite disappointing...so much so that nearly everyone backed out.

I hope it's all just an April Fool joke, but don't count on it! ;)

this just in...

AMMO PRICES TO GO UP APRIL 1ST!

...and may 1st

...and june 1st

...and july 1st

...you get the idea...

Yep, I'd say that about covers it. :(

Making ammo is something I've long been content to leave to "the professionals," and I don't have the time or space or MONEY for a big fancy rig anyhow, but I tell ya - I'm about ready to start looking into some way to get into it if feasable...

You are at 9.6/round, about 50% less than commercial. However when I look at reloading, I see a big initial time and $$$ investment before before I get my ammo at 50% off and with 20 minutes of work. Plus the storage requirments.

I am not at all saying that reloading is not a good investment, but some people don't seem to realize that reloading is not a viable option for everyone.

Personally, as expensive as ammo is, it is still not worth (to me) the investment of time. So I surf the good deals on commercial/surplus ammo that I can find. And of course the definition of "good deal" keeps getting worse and worse, but I also hear reloaders complain about the increased prices of components.

Just like reloading is not for everyone, I won't advocate surfing for good deals to everyone. But I have saved a fair amount by being wise about my purchasing.

This may work for a small amount of ammo like 10 cases or less. A large order would be very hard to fill and would go on back order due to the shortage. You would probably get a bulk amount faster by spreading the order over multiple distributors.

Keep in mind that there is not a large mark up on target ammo. You may save money by buying your own ammo at Dicks, Wang Mart, or one of the other big box stores.

Transport costs. :) The fuel tanker from Brassmining and Sulfur Place, South Africa had to pay more for fuel to push the gigantic steamer from the South Atlantic to here. He charged the US distributor of brass and sulfur more for traveling from Africa. The shipper paid a truck driver to come pick it up and carry it to Ammo Maker, Some State, USA. The truck driver who brought the sulfur and brass had to charge more cause his fuel costs went up. So the maker of the primer had to charge more to cover HIS costs. Then he had to hire another truck driver to carry it to your local store. The owner of your local store probably cussed a few times at the delivery costs from UPS, FedEx, or Santa:)...whoever brought it...and then raised the price again.

That's how.

highest priced battery for a 500 inch 71 eldo was $89.00 at auto zone.

:what:

I was just checking out prices for .22 LR because I just bought a new .22 rifle. Since when has .22 LR been more than $10 a brick? HOLY COW!
