I currently own:
Ruger 10/22
Savage 110 in 30.06
JC Higgins model 20 12 gauge
Springfield XD 9mm subcompact

I'm thinking of spending around $600
Been interested in an AK for awhile, but still not sure I want to go that route...

Suggestions?

Perhaps a nice Thompson Center Venture in a varmint caliber? We're not sure what niche you're trying to fill but from the looks of it you have a descent gap in your rifle calibers. Best I can do with so little info.

What do you want if foe? Looks like you got just about everything covered! Except a semi auto rifle. Like you said I think that Ak would be good because you can get a lot of ammo and mags in that $600. Or you could get an Ar 15 (which is way more accurate) and get mags and ammo later.

To be honest, I'm not sure what niche I want to fill. Just want something different... with it being 2011, I've even thought of saving longer and getting a 1911.

Its just $ I stashed away in my firearms fund.

You know if you want a 1911, there are the Rock Island Armory Tactical 1911s which run at about $450. They seem to be real good guns for the price. I dont own one but I have shot them and they seem to be pretty solid and accurate. I plan to pick one up myself soon.

Wheres the artillery??? 105 howitzer thought you may have to save up for a while longer.

JK but a good medium power rifle is missing ie 45-70 30-30 223 or 7.62x39

A revolver. Something in a heavier caliber - maybe .357 for the option of shooting .38s. Something you can take to the range and have a big ol' grin on your face when you pull it out of your bag!

Well an AK would fill out your collection nicely and can be done within your budgeted amount of $600. Then again so would a RIA M1911 or else maybe a S&W .357 revolver. All depends on what interests you the most right now.

I was not a big AK fan until I got one. They are a blast to shoot and the ammo is very reasonable. It would be a good choice and you will find yourself doing more shooting.

All good sound arms that will do you just fine. What do you want to put holes in? That is the question. Thousand yard targets? Belligerent elephants? If you don't have something in peculiar like that in mind, you don't need more guns than those listed.

You have every ordinary base covered already, but you lack a .22 pistol. Some people doubt the utility of this weapon, and I agree with them, but it is a lot of fun.

Chad, You're right, I need some artillery, that is definitely missing!
I checked the rules for my HOA, and I don't see anything about it, so I think I can keep it in my driveway!

I found this one with a quick google search: http://www.22lrconversions.com/military-vehicles.htm

I'll let you know if they accept my $600 bid!

If only man...... Hmm maybe a "Highroad fundraiser" to see if we could as a community not individuals purchase something like it.

On a completely unrelated note I just had a hanger built in the backyard. :)

Price and availability of the 7.62 x39 ammo kinda makes it nice for the SKS AK-47 variant.

1911 is a wonderful pistol but 45 acp price cuts down on the range time for many. Yes they come in different flavors and a 9mm is certainly more affordable in the ammo department; you already have a 9mm so common ammo type might be a consideration.

The right revolver, might just trip my trigger. I've seen some really nice ones on here.

How cool would it be to show up at the range with that?

If you match the $600, I'll let you keep it at your place half the year! :)
I'm seriously gonna fax them that offer.

Alright, I'll match the offer of 600 and let Chad keep it at his place for half the year, if he is still in the same city.

For Aces, I would get a revolver, .357 of some sort so you can have fun with .38's and .357's.

a very generous offer by mdThanatos, and offer has been faxed!

A .22 handgun, then a semi-auto rifle of military heritage.

I also agree that a Howdah would be a very entertaining gun to own... maybe not the most practical and it's not how I'd spend an extra $600 now, but I'd like to spend an extra $600 that way some day.
