Department store firearms? What ya got?...

I don't have any called Ted Williams or J.C. Higgins, but I have a Marlin Glenfield 25, which I think was on the market only for department stores. Also a couple of Antonio Zoli shotguns which I think were sold by SEARS or Penny's. I think one or both of them might have SEARS stamped on them.

I remember when Carl Gustaf rifles were stocked in the sporting goods section of either Eaton's or Simpson's, can't remember which store anymore. Purchased two or three in the mid 1970s.

There weren't a lot of dedicated gun stores around when I was growing up. I got my first .22 bolt action repeater (Mossberg 340K) and my first shotgun (Stevens 311 12ga. double) at the local hardware store. My first handgun was a High Standard .22 from K-Mart, my first high-power rifle a 7mm Mauser from Montgomery Ward, my first pump shotgun a Sears 200 (Winchester 1200) from Sears-Roebuck. My first centerfire pistol was a WWII surplus Walther P38 I got mail order from Interarmco in Alexandria, VA, from an ad in a 1967 edition of Guns & Ammo magazine; it cost $59, plus shipping.

I'm currently working on a deal for a New Haven 600AT w/ C-Lect Choke....an upgraded mossberg 500 with nicer wood and a rattle free forend...made for sears i think

I have a Sears Roebuck marked 20guage single shot, full choke, shotgun. The opening mechanism is located on the front of the trigger guard, and it is not marked with any Sears "brand name". It was purchased in 1983, and is still in very nice shape. I've used it for many a good hunt through the years, and have since passed it off to my son, who began using it this year on his first hunts. I have no idea who actually made it. Recently picked up a H&R Pardner so that I could hunt with my son, and although I like it very much, the Sears gun is the better made of the two.

Got an old Sears and Roebuck .410 bolt action that came from my Dad. Trigger mechanism is so worn that it's unsafe to shoot, maybe one day I'll get it fixed.

I have a Ruger stainless 10-22 with the laminated full length Mannlicher stock and sling. It was a WalMart exclusive. Nice looking young lady carried it to the door for me.

Nice job, Gents.....let's keep going....:D

(on another note, I screwed up on a 1912 Ranger SxS the other day on GB. Somehow my Max Bid thing didn't work according to plan. Crap, might have been able to nab it for $165.00 if all had went well. Neat shotgun nonetheless)

Woke up this morning and found out that I got a new girl moving into my house------1960 Sears/JC Higgins Model #29 in .22. Built by Hi Standard. Can't wait to get her to the range......:D

Picked up a Mossberg 600CT a couple of months ago for about $100. It's a 20 gauge with the poly choke. After contacting Mossberg, I found out it was manufactured in 1982 (if my memory serves me correct).

Makes for a good multi-purpose shotty

I have a Marlin model 30TK. The T means it is a straight stock, and the K means it was made for K-Mart, remember when they sold guns?

I have a Ted Williams 410 pump shotgun that my dad got back in the mid 60's at Sears. I believe it was made by Winchester. (not sure)

Ranger 31/stevens 520 double hump
Boito/kmart 20g breakopen single barrel

Sears Ted Williams Model 53 in 30-06. It is a rebranded post 64 Winchester model 70. Probably from the early middle 70's My wife's uncle bought it to try deer hunting. It probably didn't have 40 rounds through it when I got it. The trigger is sweet and it shoots lights out.

Bought a Ruger 10/22 from a store that I think was called simply "Best" back in 1986 in Palm Beach County, Florida. It was a discount department store with some emphasis on electronics (TV, home audio, etc.) at the time.

Bought a FIE (of Brazil) single-shot 20 gauge shotgun from a Woolworth's store in the then-existent Palm Beach Mall that same year. They also had, at the time, German Mausers for around $69, and Ruger Mini-14 rifles for around $130. I think my shotgun was about $79.

If I had known then what I know now...

Last month, I picked up a pre-68 Glenfield 75, an "economy" version of the Marlin 99M1 which was a .22LR rifle made to commerate the M1 carbine. As I understand, the Glenfield was never listed as a regular catelog item; it was a "promotional" item only, and was likely sold through some department or hardware stores

My first shotgun given to me by my parents when I was 14 was a Western Field 16 ga pump. With it, I harvested many a squirrel, rabbit and partridge; not to mention my very first deer when I was 17. Talk about your "go to" gun.
