Would like your opinion on a decision I need to make.

I put an ad out for WTT my HK USP40 locally on Backpage. I've gotten three good responses and possible trades.

Dan Wesson Model 15 .357 mag. 6" partial lug with barrel wrench. Supposedly in near new shape.

Glock 31c, upgraded guide rod.

Ruger GP100. This is really what I was looking for. I don't know details of it yet. Like blue or stainless. Barrel length, etc.

I have a G20 and love it. But I recently fell in love with revolvers and feel the need to get one. My ad specifically mentioned the GP100, and then this DW came along and complicated things.

Decisions...

the USP is a far better gun than any of those. if you do trade, make sure you get some cash too.

if it were a glock 40 or 9mm NON C-model, i would say do it. the 357sig has been proven to be no more affective than hot 9mm's. it's only more expensive with more blast (especially with a C model). also, a C model 357sig is LOUD. :eek:
 
Well the Ruger guy backed out because he got a full cash offer for his gun. That was my first choice. Been lusting after one of those for a while, but honestly I was really hoping for a 4", so oh well.

I've been given some advice from a source I trust that it would be better to stay away from Dan Wesson.

And as a reloader, the G30 is probably not the best option.

Easy come, easy go. Back at square one.
 
Can't imagine anyone trading an HK for any of those guns without considerable cash coming in the mix.
 
Yes, the HK is by far the better gun...

Why not keep it and save your money and buy the revolver you want later. I made a trade like that once with a Colt and very much regretted doing so.Think on it for a while.

The I got it almost for free, technically. Long story. So easy come easy go.

More importantly, it doesn't fit my hand and I just can't shoot it. I don't enjoy shooting it. I know in a purely economical sense you're right, but in my micro gun world I just want a gun I like.

And finally, I just learned that the G30c comes with an OEM .40 S&W compensated conversion barrel. Now I am interested again.

I wouldn't trade for another glock, especially when you've got a G20. You could set your 20 up to do a barrel swap w/ .357 sig but .357 sig isn't a particularly spectacular round IMO...

I'd go with the Dan wesson.

Everyone saying the HK is a better weapon... well, OP says the gun don't fit, so the gun don't fit! Of course, I'm no HK fanboy...
 
Years ago I had a D.W. don't remember the model but it was the first generation with the exposed barrel nut. I was far from impressed with the anything about it, except the concept. I finally gave it away to someone. Perhaps my experience was a fluke but once is enough for me.

Yeah. It wasn't until I learned that it came with a .40 conversion that I was interested. But then I have a 10mm. Do I need a .40, too? I can load 10mm to .40 velocities, or full blown 10mm stuff. Seems redundant.

I really want a Ruger GP100. So bummed that guy backed out.
 
If you don't care about an upside down trade I would bet there are many gunshops that would do an even up or close to it on any of the guns you are looking at. If I were in AZ I would make any of those trades with you as well as a K or L frame S&W. The 31C comes the closest but a new barrel on the H&K will give you a 357.
In my market the revolvers with the longer barrels are at the bottom of the food chain and suffer from much more depressed prices than the 4" and under, I don't know how it is down there but I think here the difference between the Ruger and the H&K could easily be $200. if they are of similar condition. The DW closer to $300 and the C Glock $100-$150.
 
+1 on talking to a gunshop about it. Other than that, keep fishing if you're hesitant about the DW. Maybe you'll get a GP100 if you're patient.

I don't buy factory ammo. Handloads only. 10mm is a handloader's dream. From what I've been able to gather, 357 sig is not.
 
Given those choices, I'd keep it. I have several Glocks, they're great, but they are also cheap enough to grab a new one from time to time. That Dan Wesson is nice though...

I had a buddy in the army, a fellow SDM instructor. He had one of those HK .40 USP pistols. He had no problem shooting 12"-18" targets at 200m with it once he fired a few and figured out the drop, used to do it to show students that barrel length and calibre, or equipment in general, are not necessary to "hit" targets at range. How much damage you do is another story.

I did something similar with a 686+ 6", putting 5 out of 7 shots on a sillhouette at 300m. I bet I could have done 400m with that Dan Wesson though!

If you plan on carrying it, you don't really want a compensated barrel. And don't trade that thing for a Ruger. You can get one of those for less than a Glock.
 
10mm is awesome, isn't it? I love my G20 and I carry a G29 or G27. It is the handloader's dream, I said that on here already today!

The Sig isn't as bad as you think though. It headspaces off the mouth just like the .40, so it isn't really any different to load.

But if you just want to shoot those calibres at the range, not carry, then the G20 will fire 10mm, .40, .357Sig, and 9x25Dillon.

The G31 would be a GREAT carry pistol --if it weren't compensated. That size is just a great carry size I think.
 
I generally advise against dumping guns, but since you don't like the HK I'd say that's a good exception.

I'm estimating that the retail value of a used HK USP40 is $700-ish. Well, I'm guessing a bit. Trade is probably gonna be down around $400-$500 (somewhere in that range).

So you might just be able to do an even trade on a brand new 4" GP, give or take $50. They range $500-$540 new, usually. As I said, I'm not sure on a good trade in value for your HK, but it will clearly be less than what a dealer will want to charge retail.
