magazines sound expensive..does it just come with one, I assume, for $150?

It's a commercial Baikl made Makarov. They were produced for export, not as military/police side arms. They also made a single stack, and a single stack .380.

My Mak is the single stack Baikal, and I think it's well made. $150 sounds like a great deal to me, but If you want a truly great double stack gun chambered in 9x18M then pickup a CZ 82

$150 is an extremely low price, about $250 lower than the last one I saw.

I had one some time back. I suspect the hi cap mags are hard to find an expensive.

Yes the 8 round mag will work but has some play in the magazine well.

One with factory hand engraving and some precious metal inlays could easily top $4000.
Last hi-cap one I have seen came with three factory mags and had tag of $350.

One with fluted chamber would be particularly good find as in will also digest "submag spec" ammo.

There were some experiments on creating a 9mm Luger Makarov using a technique by which they fluted the chambers. When the round fired the brass expanded into the flutes increasing the friction required to drag out the case, causing a delay in extraction which made it useable in a blowback action. I can only assume he's referring to the same thing.

IIRC, it had very limited success, didn't work well with steel cases (the steel didn't expand as readily as brass), and made the brass unsuitable for reloading. Overall, not a success. If I find one with such a chamber in the original 9x18mm then as a reloader I'd avoid it simply due to what it does to the brass.

mgmorden, that experiment with 9mm ammo was a disaster and belongs in the Bubba Hall of Shame. But it seems to me that Pablo is refering to something different - Maks built with fluted chambers to fire some sort of "submag spec" ammo.

The LGS has a highcap mak. I don't have alot of knowledge on these, but they want 150$ for it. Is that a reasonable price. The markings i saw on it were "made in Russia by imez" And ij70-18ah. also KBI.HBG.PA. Can anyone help me with this possible purchase, it would be much appreciated.

They are great guns. For a buck & a half - JUMP at it! I had one and regret having ever selling it. They are even more solid than the CZ-82s.

I'd jump on that if for no other reason than the novelty.

That is a good price - I got mine back in the 80's at a gun show for $100 and I thought they were worth a lot more now. I only have the one mag for mine, wouldn't mind another if I could find one!

The two mag examples that Railroader showed are correct. I have one of each. Good luck finding the original 12 rounder. The Promag only holds 10. As with the others, if it is in any kind of good shape $150 is almost a steal.

I usually go out of my way to avoid the promag mags. However, I must be very lucky because I haven't had any issues with my 10 round promag. Both mags came with my Mak.

I have one of those. Yes, you can put a lo-cap magazine in and they will feed fine. 150 is good, I paid that much about fifteen years ago. Forget finding any more hi-cap mags. Due to the inferior construction of these for-export pistols, it is my least liked mak, but at that price get it.

Yes, as others have said, the standard, single stack Mak mag will fit, and function fine. The old Makarov.com used to sell an insert to install that would stop the small side to side play you can induce by hand in the magwell, but it is not necessary for perfect function.
