Looks new, print on side says "Made is russia by makarov" or something close and says "9mm". Are these 9mm para or 9mil mak (i heard the new russians were 9mm paras). :uhoh:

If it says Makarov on the gun, it's not...I repeat NOT!...9mm Parabellum...aka 9x19mm, aka 9mm Lugar or "regular 9mm".

If it says Makarov on the gun, it's a 9x18mm cartridge. An entirely different animal from 9mm Parabellum. They will not substitute and you can not safely fire a 9mm Parabellum from a makarov. (Also the magazines wouldn't even hold the 9x19mm ammo...too long.)

Just out of curiousity, how much did they want for it?

If it literally says "Made is russia by makarov" then something is amiss as Makarov did not MAKE guns, he INVENTED them.

It should say something like "Made in Russia by IMEZ" which is the name of the Russian factory that makes Makarovs.

Are you sure it is a hi-cap?
Does it say "IJ70-18AH" or "IJ70-17AH" on the slide?

Depending on condition, these go for $250-$350.

BTW, do NOT even think about putting 9x19 (9mm parabellum) through one of these.

Yeah i know 99% are 9x18 but i heard russians made a few 9mm para commercially. This thing looked brand new and ye sit said by makarov, which i thought strange. :uhoh:

Anyway didnt se any other marking but appears it had adjustable sights and high quality grips.

I "heard" about the 9x19 Maks, too, but nobody could every show me a picture or a real-world reference other than "somebody told a friend, who said."

I like the older single-stack Maks, especially the 9x18, but have heard more than one person say that the double-stack Maks tend to be less reliable. that's anecdotal, and it costs nothing (so you know what its worth) -- but there are so few of them, I think I'd avoid a double-stack version.

I've never actually handled one, but my accumulated impression of the Hi-Cap Maks is that their reliability is magazine dependent, that factory magazines are rare and expensive, and that the third party magazines almost never work reliably. My single stack Mak is so slim and so reliable that I haven't developed any yearning for the higher capacity version.

Bulgarian "Arsenal" tried 9x19 Maks several years ago; to live with more powerful round they used radially groved chamber and stronger spring. Apparently it didn't worked well (felt recoil was way too much for a comfy shooting) and project was soon abandoned.

here's the only pic (downloaded from Arsenal's website some years ago), note the slide markings.. They may be really, really confusing... ;)
