I am always armed, but when i take a shower, I leave my gun in the bedroom before dressing. I got to thinkin', what if someone breaks in and I'm in the shower?

I was thinkin' a Hi Point kept in the cabinet above the toilet would be a pretty decent way to go. It has advantages....

1) It's a heavy gun, but that doesn't matter if just kept in the cabinet. Could be used as a club if it jammed. But, those that actually HAVE one say they're quite reliable and I believe it as the design is a simple blow back.

2) It's zinc alloy and so would be quite rust resistant in a steamy bathroom.

3) I have a small bathroom so even if it's not very accurate, no biggy. I mean, it's knife fighting tight in there. I've heard they shoot okay, though, just not target guns.

4) It'd be directly over the toilet when I reached for it, so upon laying eyes on it, I'd have the toilet right there to throw up in should that happen.

I mean, it's knife fighting tight in there.

Hmm, come to think of it, I have a knife I don't use for anything else......never mind. :D

If you pick a knife, just don't slip and bobbitt. :D

On the other hand, my carry gun is my bathroom gun. I cover it with my clothes to keep the humidity at bay. Once I get dressed, the gun goes immediately back in my pocket.

No humidity issues causing rust since I keep the gun surface wiped down regularly and most importantly, the innards too.

The Hi-Point sounds good to me; cheap, reliable [after you break it in of course], and disposable once it rusts into a brick.
If you get the .40 or .45 version you might even be able to put a bayonet attachment on the bottom rail :D

I kept a 2 1/2-inch S&W model 66 in the bathroom up until recently. That gun is getting too valuable for such treatment anymore though. Recently swapped it out for a 40 S&W FN that's all stainless and plastic.

The thing that comes to my mind is to store the gun low rather than high so it will receive less steam. That and keep the bathroom door open to let the steam out.

I always have my gun holstered at home and when I take a shower, it just sits on the floor in it's holster still on my belt. It is an XD-40 and not a single tiny speck of rust is to be seen. I do occasionally wipe it down with a yellow cloth but even still, it stands up to the moisture. I would recommend something like either a XD or a Glock for a bathroom gun.

Then again if you really want to get serious about a shower gun:

Oh my, paranoid are we? There are a couple of times I don't want to be armed; in the shower, and in a bar drinking.

I will streak to my gun cabinet if I have to. I'm not putting a gun in every room in the house.

It's funny, I had this same exact thought about 2 days ago. I have actually heard of a couple home invasions that occurred when the homeowner was in the shower, mostly through NRA magazines. It actually happened about 3 weeks ago in my town. I have 2 daughters (1yo, 2yo) therefore I can't have a designated bathroom gun. I decided to just make sure I bring my carry gun with me and leave it on top of the toilet when I'm showering.

I have a Remington 870 in tactical dress hanging over the bathroom door...they hang on hooks I made from old horse shoes. (2 bathrooms, 870 in both....loaded with #4 buck shot)

I have at least one "hideaway" in nearly every room...the only room that doesn't have one is my youngest sons room.

I actually used to leave my sigma in the bathroom for this reason. I've since given it away and now bring my work M&P 45 or my daily carry lc9 in with me and set it down on the vanity.

I would use something in the vein of a stainless revolver.

I would put it in a ziplock bag with some dissicant packs in the top drawer next to the sink.

I carry a P95 24/7/365. In the shower it sits outside the door on the toilet seat lid, and at night it's under the pillow. LOL at the composite blade idea, I don't want a blade in the same room as my exposed forum member...

Does a bathroom gun have to be an autoloader?

I've often thought about stashing a gun in my bathroom. I have an old-fashioned free-standing tub with a shower curtain all the way around; I figured the place for a gun was in a plastic bag between the shower curtain and the wall.

This discussion reminds me of the scene in The Godfather where Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) retrieves a revolver hidden in the bathroom of an Italian restaurant where he's meeting with a rival mob boss (Al Lettieri) and a corrupt police captain (Sterling Hayden), and uses it to kill them both.

One of my favorite lines from that flick comes when the plan is being hatched. Sonny Corleone (James Caan) says, "Make sure the guy who plants the gun knows what he's doin'. I don't want my little brother comin' outta that toilet with just his ____ in his hand!"

Now fellas lets slow down for a minute, and think this through...........The only reason that I can see the need for a shower-gun, would be if you have neglected your perimeter defenses. If you have properly set up the minimum two layer zoned area of Claymores and tripwires, you ought to be able to shower in peace. :D

You know, I had computer/radar driven guns but when the cops saw them take out a dove encroaching on my land, they passed a law expressly against me having a set of Phalanx Close In Weapon Systems and SAWs on TRAP T-360/T-250D tripods. . . . Bastards.

lovin this thread!

funny thing though, for the past few days i have been considering trying to rig up a way to store my 12ga in some sort of water tight container/plastic bag inside the shower itself. the bathroom scene from "big jake" keeps coming to mind....
