Hi, any of you guys try a peep on your mauser in 8x57? I'm thinking of a skinner Lo-pro sight that will fit in the tapped receiver.

I mounted a Lyman 57 on a '98 I had, as I love aperture sights. It helped some, but as they say, you can't polish a turd.:D Seriously, it was a big improvement over the issue sights as any peep sight should be. I'm not familiar with the Skinner.

I made a "poor man's" peep sight for one of my Turks. I bought an extra rear sight, Dremeled a crosswise groove in it, soldered a small washer in it & applied some cold blue to it. Good enough that I can hunt quite effectively with it and much easier to target shoot than the stock sights. It's a bit crude, but it works and it's totally reversible. Now, the one in your post is certainly nicer looking and better functioning with it's adjustability. I just whipped out something cheap, easy and quick.

The skinner has adjustable aperatures. Stock is 0.096'', removing it gives a .2'' ghost ring. You can buy smaller aperatures like 0.07 and 0.04''.

It is elevation adjustable by turning the sight CW or CCW. Windage you tap the front sight.

Thanks for posting this dak0ta! I had no idea that thing existed. You have just made my day! What a smart piece of engineering.

I put a Williams on my $49 Turk and hacked a chunk out of the stock with a Dremel to accommodate it. I drilled the mounting holes freehand with a cordless drill so they are just a little off. If you raise the elevation you have to adjust the windage :(

My old sporterized mod 98 in 30-06 wears a reciever mount williams. the apeture can be removed and gives you a ghost ring, works well at open sight ranges. Don't know who did the mods but they are well done.

How accurate can you shoot in terms of grouping with the peep? And how far out?>

I shoot cast lead at 100 yards with mine and I can keep them in the black on a standard 25 yard pistol target. I'm pretty pleased with that.
